The TV show “The Family Man” is an Indian spy thriller series in Hindi created by Raj & DK for Amazon Prime Video. It stars Manoj Bajpayee as Srikant Tiwari, a middle-class man who works undercover as an intelligence officer for the Threat Analysis and Surveillance Cell (TASC), a fictional division of the National Investigation Agency. Other cast members include Priyamani, Sharad Kelkar, Neeraj Madhav, Sharib Hashmi, Dalip Tahil, Sunny Hinduja, and Shreya Dhanwanthary. Raj & D.K are both the producers and directors of the series, and they co-wrote the story and screenplay with Suman Kumar, while the dialogue was written by Sumit Arora and Kumar. Samantha Ruth Prabhu joined the cast as the main antagonist in the second season, marking her debut in the digital medium, with Suparn S. Verma directing a portion of the season.
The second season was initially planned to premiere on February 12, 2021, but faced a delay and was eventually launched on June 4, 2021.
Season-2
The storyline of the second season revolves around a military resistance group resembling the Tamil Tigers from Sri Lanka and their aspirations for a fight for freedom.
Episode-1: “Exile”
Years ago, Bhaskaran, Deepan, and Bhaskaran’s brother Subbu escape an assault on their base by the Sri Lankan forces led by Lasit Rupatunga. They decide to continue their struggle for Tamil Eelam as they flee the country on a boat. In the present day, Srikant Tiwari, the renowned T.A.S.C. agent, has left T.A.S.C. and now works in IT. Rupatunga requests Indian PM Basu to hand over Subbu to them. Suchitra has resigned from her job and is undergoing counseling. It is revealed that T.A.S.C. prevented a gas leak at Orion from becoming a major catastrophe. PM Basu instructs Kulkarni to come up with a plan to transfer Subbu to the Sri Lankan government. JK is dispatched to Chennai to supervise a discreet operation to apprehend Subbu and bring him to T.A.S.C.’s Mumbai office. However, Subbu overpowers T.A.S.C. officers, holds hostages, and refuses to negotiate. Srikant seeks assistance from Chellam, a retired esteemed agent who conducted missions in Sri Lanka and was a close associate of Bhaskaran, to resolve the crisis. Bhaskaran persuades Subbu to surrender, and Subbu is arrested for killing T.A.S.C. officers. Kalyaan, a friend of Srikant’s daughter Dhriti, drops her home and is revealed to be an associate of Sajid, the terrorist involved in the Orion chemical incident, who is now in London.
Episode-2: “Weapon”
Major Sameer, the mastermind behind Mission Zulfiqar, encounters his superior, General Ansari, in London, updates him on a new assignment, Zulfiqar 2.0, and eliminates him. In Chennai, Raji, a woman, faces workplace harassment from her boss, Nanda, and harassment during her commute from a harasser. One night, when the harasser follows Raji into a deserted street, she violently attacks and kills him, revealing herself as a Tamil rebel operative. Srikant and Suchitra undergo counseling sessions. Sameer dispatches Sajid back to India to execute the mission. T.A.S.C. officers escort Subbu to court, where Sajid detonates a bomb in a scooter, resulting in Subbu’s death. Bhaskaran resigns from the exile government, allowing Deepan to assume the role of prime minister. PM Basu expresses a desire for bilateral discussions with Ruptunga in Chennai. Bhaskaran blames PM Basu for his brother’s demise and seeks retribution. Sameer meets Bhaskaran and pledges support to their cause. Bhaskaran activates an elite unit under the leadership of Selvarasan. Overwhelmed by the news of Subbu’s death and Bhaskaran’s resignation, Raji contemplates suicide. Selvarasan contacts Raji and instructs her to resign from her job and await further mission directives.
Episode-3: “Angel of Death”
Some time ago, Selvarasan’s team clandestinely acquired C4 explosives from the Sri Lankan Army and concealed them in Point Pedro. Sambit alerts PM Basu to the threat on her life, but she remains resolute about keeping the date, time, and location of the bilateral talks unchanged. A shopkeeper mistakenly addresses Kalyaan as Salman, but he dismisses it when questioned by Dhriti. Srikant takes Suchitra to a restaurant to commemorate her birthday, sparking a disagreement about their relationship. Following a heated yet comical confrontation with his boss, Srikant resigns from his IT job and returns to T.A.S.C. Nanda becomes aware of Raji’s secret and coerces her into accepting a dinner invitation. Meanwhile, Suchitra resumes her employment. Raji fatally injures Nanda after he becomes aggressive with her following dinner.
Episode-4: “Eagle”
In a flashback, it is depicted that Raji is the most skilled fighter pilot among the rebels. Feeling guilty, Srikant visits Karim’s girlfriend, Jonali, before departing for Chennai, and reassures her that Karim is not a terrorist. Sameer acquires a flying school named Tigris Aviation from one of Bhaskaran’s acquaintances. Srikant becomes part of the T.A.S.C. team stationed in Chennai. Inspector Umayal initiates an investigation into Nanda’s disappearance. Chellam provides Srikant and his colleague, J.K. Talpade, with a list of the rebel safehouses. Umayal questions Raji at her residence and instructs her not to leave the city without permission. Srikant and J.K. encounter Raji as she flees from her home. Umayal becomes suspicious of Raji and returns to find Srikant and J.K. with evidence related to Nanda’s disappearance.
Episode-5: “Homecoming”
Srikant and J.K. are detained and remain in custody overnight. Umayal becomes a part of the T.A.S.C. team. T.A.S.C. confirms Raji’s identity as a rebel operative. Raji, Selvarasan, and Sajid arrange to convene at Vedaranyam, the rebels’ previous stronghold, and then depart for Sri Lanka to acquire provisions for the mission. Upon detecting movement on rebel communication channels, Sambit and Kulkarni advise Deepan to intervene and stop Bhaskaran. Raji and Sajid retrieve the C4 explosives from Point Pedro.
Episode-6: “Martyrs”
Raji and Sajid come back to Vedaranyam with the C4 explosives. Chellam advises Srikant to locate the unit and provides the address of Jebraj (known as Local 52) in Vedaranyam. When Raji visits Jebraj’s residence to acquire the C4 detonator, the T.A.S.C. team apprehends her. Despite questioning Raji at the police station, Srikant and Umayal are unsuccessful in obtaining any information. Selvarasan mobilizes the locals and stages an attack on the police station. They manage to rescue Raji, who is injured, and during the shootout, Milind tragically loses his life, much to the grief of the T.A.S.C. team. Irritated by Srikant’s efforts to thwart his plans, Sajid seeks permission from Sameer to confront him. Sajid instructs Salman to abduct Dhriti.
Episode-7: “Collateral Damage”
The T.A.S.C. team discovers the C4 detonator at Jebraj’s residence. Following a disagreement with Suchitra, Dhriti departs from home. The plot for assassination involves crashing an aircraft packed with C4 explosives into the convention center where the bilateral talks are scheduled to take place. Sajid constructs a new detonator and loads the aircraft with C4 explosives. Salman and Dhriti watch a movie together and then proceed to his residence. After bidding farewell to Raji, Sajid departs for Mumbai. Concerned about Dhriti’s absence, Suchitra notifies Srikant. Ajit traces Dhriti’s phone to a local train, prompting Srikant to realize that his daughter has been abducted, leading him to rush to Mumbai.
Episode-8: “Vendetta”
T.A.S.C. has suspicions of a potential 9/11-type assault. J.K. and Muthu are prevented from inspecting the aircraft at Tigris Aviation. Sajid contacts Srikant and cautions him to steer clear of his path. J.K. clandestinely accesses the concealed plane and uncovers the C4 explosives. The insurgents launch an assault on the pair, forcing them to take shelter. They split up and successfully evade capture, but J.K. sustains a gunshot wound and loses consciousness in a bush by the highway. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) shares a video of Salman at Dombivli station, where he discards Dhriti’s phone, while his associate Syed is spotted in the CCTV footage at the mall. Law enforcement initiates a search for Salman and Syed. Shinde receives information about Syed’s whereabouts. Sajid, accompanied by Salman and Syed, devises a plan to brutally eliminate Dhriti to torment Srikant. Dhriti persuades Salman to release her and fatally wounds him with a shard of glass. Subsequently, she frees herself, but Sajid arrives and renders her unconscious.
Episode-9: “The Final Act”
Shinde verifies the whereabouts of the residence where Dhriti is held captive and alerts Srikant about Sajid’s presence. Law enforcement surrounds the building while Srikant and his team burst in, but Sajid and Syed flee through a window. They discover Dhriti, who collapses into Srikant’s arms in tears. Srikant sends Dhriti to the hospital while the police engage in a shootout with Sajid and Syed. Syed is apprehended first, and Sajid opens fire on the police. Srikant shoots and injures Sajid, cornering him with the police team and demanding surrender. Sajid feigns surrender but attempts to seize a policeman’s rifle, prompting the remaining officers to shoot him down. Dhriti learns about Srikant’s true profession in the hospital. Srikant returns to Chennai to lead the T.A.S.C. unit, while JK remains missing until he is found and hospitalized. The rebels dismantle the plane and transport it to Kicha Farms near Sunguvarchatram, where they plan to reconstruct and fly it from an abandoned highway. Meanwhile, with embassy officials and local police assistance, Deepan has Bhaskaran arrested in Normandy, urging him to disclose his plans to avoid extradition to India. However, Bhaskaran chooses suicide, disappointing Deepan and the T.A.S.C. team. Acting on information from Chellam, Srikant reaches the farm, triggering a fierce gunfight that results in the deaths of Selvarasan and the remaining rebels. Srikant and Muthu pursue Raji as she attempts to take off on the plane. They successfully detonate the aircraft, killing her. The bilateral discussions proceed as scheduled, and PM Basu honors the T.A.S.C. team, personally commending Srikant for his courageous service. Srikant shares his experiences with his family, and the scene concludes as Suchitra begins to reveal something. The season ends with a depiction of India grappling with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. An agent in Kolkata receives approval from his Chinese handler for a mission known as Project Guan Yu.
