Sheirgill was born on December 3, 1970, into a Jat family of Punjabi Sikh aristocracy Amrita Sher-Gil, the well-known Indian artist, was his paternal grand aunt.
After a few years of study at St. Francis’ College in Lucknow, he relocated to Punjab, his ancestral home state, in 1985. He attended Bikram College, Punjabi University, Patiala, and The Punjab Public School, Nabha. He graduated from Punjab University and Chandigarh’s Post Graduate Government College, number 11.
After a cousin persuaded him to try his hand at the movie business, Sheirgill traveled to Mumbai. He took acting lessons from Roshan Taneja there. In 2001, Sheirgill wed Priyanka Puri, his longtime girlfriend. Veer is the name of their son. Because Jimmy Shergill was already being used on social media, Sheirgill re-spelled his last name from “Shergill” to “Sheirgill.”
