Priyamani Vasudev Mani Iyer, also known by her stage name Priyamani, is a Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi cinema actress and former model. She began her career in regional Indian cinema and won three Filmfare Awards and a National Film Award for her work in films of various languages.
Priyamani was born on June 4, 1984, in Bangalore, India, to Latha and Vasudeva Mani Iyer, a Tamil-speaking family. Her mother, Lathamani, a former national level badminton player from Thiruvananthapuram, worked as a bank manager at Union Bank of India. Her father is a plantation owner from a Tamil family in Palakkad. Her older brother, Vishakh, works in the plantation industry alongside her father. She has been very interested in extracurricular activities and athletics while in school. She is the singer of Carnatic music Kamala Kailas’ granddaughter. She is the niece of the singer Malgudi Shubha and the cousin of the actress Vidya Balan.
Priyamani went to Bishop Cotton Women’s College on J C Road after finishing her education at Sri Aurobindo Memorial School. She worked as a print model after he finished his education. Currently, she is working towards a Bachelor of Arts in correspondence psychology.
In 2003, Priyamani made her acting debut in the Telugu movie “Evare Atagaadu.” She then made her film debut in Malayalam with the movie Sathyam. The movie was a failure. 2004 saw her make her Tamil cinema debut with “Kangalal Kaidhu Sei.” Priya gained three films after appearing in the Telugu movie “Pellaina Kothalo,” which was a huge hit in 2006. She became extremely well-known for her performance as “Muthazhagu” in the Tamil movie “Paruthiveeran.”
She then made further appearances in films including “Yamadonga,” “Malaikottai,” “Thirakkatha,” and “Arumugam.” Priya made her film debut in Kannada in 2009 with “Raam,” which was followed by her film debut in Bollywood with “Raavan.” Additionally, she was a part of the Bollywood movie “Chennai Express.”
On August 23, 2017, Priyamani wed the event planner Mustafa Raj in a discreet ceremony. Later, she revealed that she was a fairly devout Hindu who still practised her religion despite her marriage to a Muslim.
Priya has judged a number of dance reality shows in addition to movies, including “D 4 Dance” (2014), “D2 – D 4 Dance” (2015), “Dancing Star 2” (2015), “Kings of Dance” (2016), “D3 – D 4 Dance” (2016), and “Dancing Star 3” (2016).
She appeared in the 2019 season of “The Family Man,” a web series on Amazon Prime.
