Avengers: Doomsday

Story:

The upcoming American superhero movie Avengers: Doomsday is inspired on the Avengers superhero team from Marvel Comics. It will be the 39th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the follow-up to Avengers: Endgame (2019). It is produced by Marvel Studios and released by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Robert Downey Jr. plays Doctor Doom in this ensemble film, which was directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and written by Michael Waldron, Stephen McFeely, and the writing duo of Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. In order to combat Doom, the Avengers, Wakandans, New Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men come together from several realities.

In July 2022, the MCU’s Phase Six and “The Multiverse Saga” concluded with the announcement of two new Avengers movies: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars. Destin Daniel Cretton and Jeff Loveness were hired to direct and script The Kang Dynasty, respectively, while Jonathan Majors was scheduled to return to his MCU role as the antagonist Kang the Conqueror. Due in part to Majors’s legal troubles, Marvel was considering abandoning the Kang plot when Cretton left in November 2023 and Waldron took over as writer. Majors was sacked the following month. July 2024 saw the announcement of Downey’s hiring as the new antagonist Doctor Doom, the return of the Russo brothers as filmmakers and McFeely as co-writer, and the new subtitle Doomsday.

Using the concept of colliding universes to bring together actors from several franchises, the big cast includes stars from 20th Century Fox’s X-Men film series and earlier MCU media. In addition to location filming in Bahrain and England, the filming was conducted at Pinewood Studios in England from April to September of 2025. As part of Phase Six of the MCU, Avengers: Doomsday is slated for release in the US on December 18, 2026. On December 17, 2027, the sequel Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled for release. The Avengers, Wakandans, and New Avengers from Earth-616, the Fantastic Four from Earth-828, and the “original” X-Men from a different universe come together to confront the existential threat of Doctor Doom fourteen months after the events of Thunderbolts* (2025).
