Krishna DK, an Indian filmmaker renowned for his collaboration with Raj Nidimoru in delivering distinctive films within Bollywood. Born Krishna Dasarakothapalli on December 13, 1972, in Chittoor, he completed his schooling there before pursuing computer science engineering at Sri Venkateswara University in Tirupati, where fate would introduce him to his future collaborator, Raj Nidimoru. Their friendship blossomed, laying the groundwork for their creative partnership, which began with participation and success in various cultural events during their college years.
Following graduation, Krishna worked as a software engineer in the United States, where despite financial success, he felt constrained creatively. Reconnecting with Raj, the duo embarked on a filmmaking journey, inspired by their resourcefulness and the DIY ethos espoused by Robert Rodriguez’s book “Rebel without a Crew.” With limited resources, they produced their debut, “Just Me,” an eight-minute psychological thriller, followed by longer works like “Love, Relationship and other Trivial Things” and “shaadi.com,” which drew attention and awards, including support from Anupam Mittal of Shaadi.com.
In 2003, Raj and DK directed “Flavors,” depicting the lives of Non-Resident Indians in New York City. Krishna decided to leave his job to focus on scriptwriting, with Raj following suit, leading to their Bollywood debut with “99,” a film inspired by the 1999 cricket betting scandal. Despite initial doubts, “99” received acclaim for its innovative blend of comedy and thriller elements. Subsequent projects like “Shor in the City” and “Go Goa Gone” further solidified their reputation for genre-bending storytelling.
Their upcoming project, “A Gentleman,” slated for release in August 2017, marks their continued exploration of inventive narratives. Krishna remains confident in targeting Telugu audiences, recognizing their significant presence within the NRI community, despite crafting English-language films like “Flavors.”
