TheatreStory:
Laxman Utekar’s planned biographical drama Eetha is scheduled for release on August 28, 2026. The film tells the true biography of Vithabai Narayangaonkar, a renowned Lavani and Tamasha performer from Maharashtra. It chronicles her ascent from poverty to the position of “Empress of Tamasha,” emphasizing the final sacrifice she made for her art. The story, which takes place between the 1940s and the 1990s, centers on her extraordinary fortitude and commitment to the folk theater heritage.
Unmatched Dedication: One of the most well-known and pivotal events in her life is recreated in the movie: the time she went into labor while performing on stage, delivered birth behind the curtains, and bravely returned to the platform in a matter of minutes. Artistic Rebellion: The film examines the conflict between an artist’s selfless contributions and the harsh expectations of the public through her life narrative. The famous line from the movie, “Padi padi mari toh bechari kehlaungi, naachte hue mari toh misaal ban jaaungi” (If I die falling, I’ll be remembered as a weak lady; if I die dancing, I’ll become a legend), perfectly captures her motivating mindset.
Stellar Ensemble: The biographical drama, which is produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, has a huge ensemble that includes Randeep Hooda, Nana Patekar, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Siddharth Jadhav, and Shraddha Kapoor as Vithabai.
