Story:

Kuselan, directed by P. Vasu in 2008, is an Indian Tamil-language dramedy film that serves as an official remake of the Malayalam movie Kadha Parayumbol (2007). Produced by Pushpa Kandaswamy, Aswani Dutt, and G. P. Vijayakumar in two languages, the film features Rajinikanth in an extended guest appearance, supported by Pasupathy, Meena, Vadivelu, and Livingston.

Simultaneously made in Telugu as Kathanayakudu, Kuselan unfolds the story of a villager who once shared a deep friendship with a renowned cinema actor.

Their paths diverged due to their distinct careers, with one becoming a national figure and the other a village barber. Decades later, the actor returns to the village for a film shoot, sparking excitement among the villagers but raising concerns for the barber, who fears being forgotten by his old friend.

Kuselan premiered on August 1, 2008, achieving the third-largest opening for a Tamil film at the time. Despite pre-release hype, the movie received negative reviews and proved to be a box office flop.

Marketed as a Rajinikanth-starrer, the film featured him in a guest role, as emphasized by Rajinikanth himself before its release. The narrative revolves around Balakrishnan, a struggling barber facing financial challenges in Marayoor village.

The arrival of the famous actor Nagercoli Nagaraj in the village for a film shoot adds twists and turns to the story. Eventually, the film explores themes of friendship, fame, and the impact of one’s past on their present life. Balakrishnan’s reunion with his long-lost friend, Ashok Kumar, unfolds in a heartwarming manner during a school function, bringing closure to their separated lives.
