Mayilsamy (2 October 1965 – 19 February 2023) was an accomplished Indian actor and comedian, best known for his supporting roles in Tamil cinema. Over the course of his nearly four-decade-long career, he appeared in numerous Tamil films and became a household name in Tamil Nadu. Mayilsamy’s comedic talents were widely recognized, and he often collaborated with veteran comedians like Vivek and Vadivelu. He was also a respected television personality, serving as a guest judge on the popular show Asathapovathu Yaaru on Sun TV in Chennai. His mimicry skills and gift for humor endeared him to audiences, and he received the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Comedian for his role in “Kangalal Kaidhu Sei.”
Mayilsamy’s journey into the world of entertainment began with his involvement in theater and stage performances, where he honed his acting and comedy skills. He soon made a mark in Tamil television, hosting and judging the hit comedy show “Asathapovathu Yaaru” from 2002 to 2004, solidifying his position among the leading comedy talents in the industry.
In the realm of film, Mayilsamy started in the 1980s, gradually building his acting career with minor roles in movies like “Apoorva Sagodharargal” and “Michael Madhana Kama Rajan.” However, he gained prominence in films like “Dhool” (2003), where he shared the screen with Vivek. Beyond his cinematic contributions, he was a versatile artist, involved in stand-up comedy, television hosting, and theater.
Tragically, Mayilsamy passed away from a cardiac arrest on 19 February 2023, at the age of 57. His sudden demise came after attending a Shivratri Puja and a musical session at a temple in Chennai the previous evening. Despite efforts to save him, he was declared dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital. His funeral took place at his home and was followed by cremation at AVM cemetery in Vadapalani on 20 February, marking the end of a remarkable career in Tamil entertainment.
