T. P. Gajendran, an Indian film director and actor known for playing minor roles, had a prolific career in the Tamil film industry. Born in 1955, he directed more than 15 films and acted in over 100 movies. He was the son of Tuticorin MR. Perumal, and his upbringing was supported by his sister-in-law, the actress T. P. Muthulakshmi.
Gajendran’s journey in the film industry began as an assistant director under the guidance of prominent filmmakers like K. Balachander and Visu. His acting debut came in the 1985 film “Chidambara Rahasiyam.” In 1988, he made his directorial debut with “Veedu Manaivi Makkal.”
During the early 2000s, Gajendran focused on directing medium-budget family comedy dramas, often featuring Prabhu in leading roles. Some of these films include “Budget Padmanabhan” (2000), “Middle Class Madhavan” (2001), and “Banda Paramasivam” (2003). He also attempted a Hindu devotional film in 2001, titled “Karppoora Naayagi,” featuring Roja and Bhanupriya, but the project was eventually shelved. In 2015, he assumed the role of president at the Cinema Technicians Association (CTA). Sadly, T. P. Gajendran passed away on February 5, 2023, at the age of 68, marking the end of a notable career in the Tamil film industry.
