Biography:

Dr. Salur Koteshwara Raois commonly known as Koti,he was a renowned Indian music director and composer, primarily known for his contributions to the Telugu film industry. His career spanned several decades, and he left an indelible mark on the world of Indian music.  Salur Koteshwara Rao hailed from a family deeply rooted in classical music.

He was born into the illustrious Salur family of musicians and was exposed to classical music from a very young age. His father, Salur Rajeswara Rao, was a respected musician, and young Koteshwara Rao’s exposure to music began under his guidance. Under the tutelage of his father, Koteshwara Rao received rigorous training in classical music, particularly in the Carnatic tradition.

He mastered various musical instruments, including the violin, which would become an integral part of his later career.  Koteshwara Rao made his entry into the film industry as a music director in the 1950s. His talent and classical background quickly gained recognition, and he became a sought-after composer for Telugu films.

One of Koteshwara Rao’s strengths was his versatility. He seamlessly navigated through various musical genres, including classical, devotional, and folk, adapting his compositions to suit the needs of the films he worked on. Koteshwara Rao collaborated with several notable directors and lyricists in the Telugu film industry.

Apart from his work in the film industry, Koteshwara Rao held a Ph.D. in music and was a professor at Andhra University. Dr. Salur Koteshwara Rao passed away on July 21, 2018, leaving behind a rich musical legacy.
