A group of schoolchildren are abducted by a terrorist named Nana at the opening of the movie. He demands the freedom of his brother Chinna in return for holding them captive. After DIG Benerjee saves the kids, Chinna loses her life in the ensuing struggle. Nana swears to destroy DIG Benerjee’s entire clan in order to exact revenge on his brother.
The action then moves to Pudipalli, a village next to the Godavari River. Here, Annapurnamma, Balakrishna’s mother, resides with him. He and Ramadasu, his maternal uncle, are at odds all the time. Rani, the daughter of Ramadasu, fights with any lady she believes is getting close to Balaiah because she is in love with him.
Priya, accompanied by Tulasamma, arrives at the village. Priya is the cousin of Annapurnamma and the daughter of Ram Mohan Rao. Much to Rani’s ire, Balaiah develops feelings for her. Priya becomes irritated when Rani reprimands her, so she challenges Rani to win Balaiah over to her way. Priya and Rani are in competition with one another to get Balaiah to notice them. Balaiah starts to truly love Priya after falling for her act. Priya begs Balaiah to get her ring from an anthill in order to demonstrate to Rani how much he loves her. When he does so, a snake bites him. Priya admits that she and Rani had been toying with his feelings after witnessing him suffer.
Balaiah becomes enraged by this and, in a fit of retaliation, ties Priya’s neck with the marriage chain Mangalasutram. It is revealed that Tulasamma is a police officer who is genuinely here to safeguard Priya, and Priya expresses her desire not to marry Balaiah. For now, she encourages Priya to exercise patience. Ramadasu overhears Tulasamma and Commissioner Srikanth talking, and he begins to blackmail them. However, he is arrested before he can do any harm. Rani regrets her involvement in the matter, and she and Annapurnamma genuinely hope that Balaiah and Priya find happiness together.
