Story:

“Karthavyam” is a 1990 Indian Telugu-language political action film directed by Mohan Gandhi and featuring Vijayashanti in the lead role. The screenplay, penned by the Paruchuri Brothers, draws inspiration from the real-life experiences of police officer Kiran Bedi.

Produced with a budget of ₹90 lakh, the movie proved to be a significant commercial success, earning over ₹7 crore at the box office. Vijayashanti’s outstanding performance in the film earned her the National Film Award for Best Actress. “Karthavyam” also had the honor of premiering at the 14th International Film Festival of India in the mainstream category.

The film was later dubbed into Tamil as “Vyjayanthi IPS,” and it achieved substantial success in the Tamil film industry as well. This success led to a Hindi remake titled “Tejasvini” in 1994, where Vijayashanti reprised her role. Additionally, the film was remade in Tamil as “Bhavani” in 2011.
