Llewellyn Indian film editor Anthony Gonsalvez hails from Tamil Nadu. Kaakha Kaakha, a 2003 film directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, served as his introduction to cinema. He continued to collaborated with Gautham V. Menon by Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu (2006), Pachaikili Muthucharam (2007), Vaaranam Aayiram (2008), Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa (2010), Neethaane En Ponvasantham (2012), Yennai Arindhaal (2015), Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada (2016) and Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu (2022). After both films were successful, he worked with filmmaker Shankar on Enthiran (2010).
Over 200 films in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada feature his work. He edited 2.0 (2018), the most costly feature film ever made in India. At Madras Christian College, Tambaram, Anthony pursued a degree in literature but struggled to decide what to do with his life after graduation. He signed up for editing classes at Prasad Studio after advice from his pals and started studying about animation there.
From 1993 onward, he began receiving requests to work on corporate advertisements, trailers, and documentaries for Edit Point. He continued to do so until 2004, frequently teaming with notable commercial filmmakers like Rajiv Menon. He subsequently started periodically working on film music editing while also learning how to edit telefilms. For the audio release ceremony of the movie Kaakha Kaakha, director Gautham Vasudev Menon asked Anthony to edit the song “Ennai Konjam” from that movie.
He asked him to sign on as the film’s editor after being impressed with his work on that song. Since then, he has formed relationships with important Tamil film filmmakers, frequently working with Shankar, AR Murugadoss, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Linguswamy, K. V. Anand, and A. L. Vijay. Anthony has long harboured the desire to become a film director, and in November 2008 he started pre-production on Jagathalapradhaban, a comedy starring Jayaram, Yuhi Sethu, and Namitha. But the movie didn’t catch on.
In August 2014, Anthony made the announcement that his debut movie would be a remake of the 2012 Malayalam blockbuster Shutter. He revealed the project in November 2014 and proceeded to work on it. Sathyaraj would play the lead. Anumol, Kalyani Natarajan, and Dixitha Kothari are also featured in the movie.
A new Tamil comedy-horror film titled Chandramukhi 2 will be written and directed by P. Vasu and produced by Lyca Productions’ Subaskaran Allirajah. It is the second film in the Chandramukhi series and the sequel to Chandramukhi. Raghava Lawrence and Kangana Ranaut both appear in the movie.Anthony is the editor who edited the previous movies in his marvelous way to invite the people in to his world.
