Matthew Schmidt (born April 30, 1971) is an American film editor renowned for his work on numerous Marvel Cinematic Universe films. His credits include Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019), all in collaboration with Jeffrey Ford; Black Widow (2021), alongside Leigh Folsom Boyd; and Thor: Love and Thunder (2022), with Peter S. Elliot, Tim Roche, and Jennifer Vecchiarello.
Schmidt began working with Ford as an assistant editor on the first Avengers film, later sharing full editing credits starting with Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The pair edited Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame consecutively over a two-year period, simultaneously cutting footage as the films were being shot. With over 900 hours of footage between the two films, the editing process was extensive. Both movies became some of the highest-grossing films of all time, and Schmidt and Ford received the Saturn Award for Best Editing for Avengers: Endgame.
