Theatre“Hare Ram,” a 2008 Telugu-language action thriller film directed by Harshavardhan, emerged as a commercial success. Produced by Kalyan Ram under N.T.R. Arts, the film features Kalyan Ram in a dual role, alongside Priyamani, Sindhu Tolani, Brahmanandam, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Ali, and Raghu Babu. The movie’s music is composed by Mickey J Meyer, with cinematography by C. Ram Prasad and editing by Gautam Raju. Notable stunt choreographers Stunt Silva and Ram-Lakshman crafted the action sequences.
The storyline revolves around the conflict between Hari and Ram, conjoined twins separated at birth. Hari grows up to become an honest cop, while Ram, facing mental instability and violent tendencies, becomes a threat, particularly to his own brother. The narrative takes a gripping turn when Ram embarks on a killing spree, prompting Hari to take charge and commit to arresting him within 24 hours or risk losing his job.
The film was released on July 18, 2008, and achieved commercial success. Subsequently, in 2011, it was dubbed into Hindi as “Julmo Ka Tandav.” Notably, in an interview, Kalyan Ram revealed that “Hare Ram” was the first Telugu film to incorporate a flycam, marking a technological milestone. The central character, IPS officer Hari (played by Kalyan Ram), finds himself entangled in a complex investigation involving the murders of a news reporter and a prominent doctor. \
To his shock, he discovers that the perpetrator behind these crimes is none other than his twin brother, Ram. Ram’s character is portrayed as grappling with psychological challenges, making him a volatile and unpredictable individual. His intense emotions lead him to harbor a deep-seated grudge against Hari, culminating in attempts to harm him even during their childhood.
Anjali (Priyamani), posing as a bank employee, becomes a significant part of the narrative. Unbeknownst to Hari, she is a CBI officer investigating him for the murders. The plot thickens as Anjali’s pursuit of Hari unfolds against the backdrop of Ram’s tumultuous actions. The storyline delves into the theme of revenge, with Ram seeking vengeance against the doctor who injected him with a deadly virus.
Ram’s actions are driven by a desire to expose a health mafia, resulting in a complex web of deceit, loyalty, and familial bonds. As the plot unravels, unexpected twists come to light. Sravani (Sindhu Tolani), a journalist and Ram’s love interest, is revealed to have been jointly killed by the channel owner and the health minister. Ram’s attack on the doctor stems from a quest for justice against those who orchestrated her demise.
Ram’s willingness to sacrifice himself to save others adds depth to the narrative. In a turn of events, Hari, forced to shoot Ram to prevent further harm, decides to impersonate his twin to expose the real culprits. The climax involves a strategic kidnapping of the Health Minister, culminating in a tense showdown. The film concludes with Hari successfully executing his plan, escaping from CBI custody, and explaining the intricacies of his escape to a taxi driver (Brahmanandam). The resolution provides closure to the complex tale of familial bonds, sacrifice, and justice, making “Hare Ram” a compelling addition to Telugu cinema.
