TheatreThe 2010 Telugu-language action crime film Golimaar was produced by Bellamkonda Suresh under the Sri Sai Ganesh Productions banner and directed by Puri Jagannadh. Gopichand and Priyamani play the main roles in the movie. Chakri was the composer of the music. It draws inspiration from Daya Nayak’s life, who made headlines in the late 1990s for breaking the record for encounter killings.
Golimaar opened on May 27, 2010, to enthusiastic reviews from critics and quickly achieved box office success. For the song “Magallu” from the movie, Geetha Madhuri won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer.
An orphan named Gangaram goes on to become a trustworthy police officer. His combat and shooting skills impress DIG Bharath Nandan, who promotes him as an encounter specialist. Gangaram aims to destroy the criminal networks of Khalid, who operates out of Malaysia, and Talwar, who operates within the city. When Gangaram begins killing criminals with the assistance of his team and gains notoriety for his encounter killings, ACP Patnayak grows envious of him. Gangaram eventually attacks Talwar, but before he can shoot him, his ammunition runs out. To Gangaram’s dismay, Patyanak shows up and takes his place.
Afterwards, Talwar hurts himself in an effort to get out of the hospital, but Gangaram follows him and murders him and his goons. After finding out that Khalid is in Kenya on a personal visit, Gangaram makes the decision to go kill him, but Bharath requests that he resign because the operation is confidential. Gangaram is arrested on suspicion of having ties to a gang when Patnayak and other police raid his home while he and his girlfriend Pavitra are there. While in detention, Gangaram finds out that Khalid and Bharath used him to kill Talwar. He then manages to get away and tells the media how, in spite of his honesty, he was set up. Now known as “Gangu Bhai,” Gangaram turns into a gangster and begins killing the police officers involved in the attempt at an encounter with him.
In an attempt to locate Gangaram, Patnayak kidnaps Pavitra and subjects her to torture. When Gangaram finds out this, he orders one of his goons to kill Patnayak while Pavitra lies in the hospital recovering. When police officers remove Pavitra’s mother Arundhati, Bharath—her estranged husband—begs her to persuade Gangaram to spare his life so that Pavitra might live. But Arundhati betrays him even more when she orders him to kill Bharath over the phone. After Bharath kills her with a gunshot, Gangaram uses him to track down Khalid in Malaysia. Gangaram kills Bharath and then travels to Malaysia, where he kidnaps David, one of Khalid’s goons, and uses him as leverage to kill more goons.
Khalid, on the other hand, questions and beats Gangaram because he thinks someone has helped him. Gangaram fights Khalid and causes him to suspect his henchmen. In the ensuing chase, Gangaram kills the henchmen. Khalid dashes to a helipad, where Gangaram engages in combat with Khalid after killing the pilot. After discovering that Khalid, actually Anthony, has been residing in Malaysia under a Mexican passport, Gangaram shoots Anthony dead and notifies DGP Prakash (it is revealed that Gangaram devised the entire scheme with Prakash’s assistance). Gangaram desires to go back to India and carry out his responsibilities once more, but Prakash advises him to stay and run his gang in order to keep the syndicate under police control. Gangaram accepts and gives his goons a call. Gopi and Pavitra plan to relocate to Malaysia.
