Secret Invasion

Story:

Kyle Bradstreet developed the American television miniseries Secret Invasion for the streaming service Disney+. It is based on the same-titled 2008 Marvel Comics plot. Produced by Marvel Studios, it is the ninth television series in the MCU, which shares continuity with the franchise’s motion pictures. It centers on Nick Fury and Talos’s discovery of a Skrull plot to take over Earth through shapeshifting. The director is Ali Selim, and Bradstreet is the chief writer.

In addition to Kingsley Ben-Adir, Killian Scott, Samuel Adewunmi, Dermot Mulroney, Richard Dormer, Olivia Colman, Don Cheadle, Charlayne Woodard, Christopher McDonald, and Katie Finneran, Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn return to their respective parts as Fury and Talos from earlier MCU media. By the time of September 2020, Bradstreet and Jackson were involved in the series’ development. That December, Mendelsohn’s comeback was announced, as was the series’ title and premise. Selim and Thomas Bezucha were hired to direct the series in May after more casting took place in March and April of 2021. Filming began in London around September 2021 and finished in late April 2022, with further filming around England. During production, a large portion of the series’ creative staff was overhauled, with Bezucha leaving and Brian Tucker replacing Bradstreet as writer. From mid-June to late-September 2022, there were substantial reshoots.

June 21, 2023, was the beginning of Secret Invasion, which lasted for six episodes until July 26. It is the first series of the MCU’s Phase Five. Critics gave the series mixed reviews, praising Jackson and Mendelsohn’s performances but criticizing the pacing, visual effects, and narrative, especially the finale.
