Udhayanidhi Stalin is an Indian film producer, politician, and former actor known for his contributions to Tamil cinema. Born on November 27, 1977, he embarked on a career in politics and cinema, eventually serving as the Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development in Tamil Nadu’s government. He represents the Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni Assembly constituency in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly and is the son of M. K. Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, and the grandson of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.
Udhayanidhi initially entered the film industry as a producer and distributor through his production studio, Red Giant Movies. He produced notable films such as “Kuruvi” (2008), “Aadhavan” (2009), “Manmadan Ambu” (2010), and “7aum Arivu” (2011). Subsequently, he transitioned to acting, making his debut in the romantic comedy “Oru Kal Oru Kannadi” (2012) and continued to star in his own productions. However, he decided to end his acting career in 2023 to focus on his political endeavors.
In addition to his political career, Udhayanidhi has faced controversies in his public life. During the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections, his fervent campaigning for the DMK party played a pivotal role in their victory. However, he faced backlash for making remarks about the late politicians Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley, which led to a notice from the Election Commission of India.
Furthermore, Udhayanidhi sparked controversy when he compared Sanātana Dharma to diseases like dengue, malaria, and COVID-19, calling for its eradication. His comments faced criticism from various quarters, including political leaders, citizens, and religious figures, and resulted in legal actions filed against him.
Udhayanidhi Stalin is married to Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, and they have a son and a daughter. Kiruthiga is involved in the lifestyle magazine Inbox 1305 and has also directed films for Red Giant Movies. Udhayanidhi describes himself as an atheist.
