Biography:

Vaiyapuri, originally named Ramakrishnan, is an Indian actor known for his work in Tamil-language films. He gained recognition in the late 1990s and early 2000s, primarily playing supporting comedic roles. His breakthrough came with a significant part in Balu Mahendra’s comedy film “Raman Abdullah” (1997). Subsequently, he received acclaim for his roles in movies like “Thulladha Manamum Thullum” (1999), “Gemini” (2002), and Mani Ratnam’s “Raavanan” (2010).

Vaiyapuri’s journey into the Tamil film industry was not immediate, as he initially struggled to find opportunities due to his thin physique. He began his career with television serials on Doordarshan before transitioning into minor roles in films. However, his role in “Raman Abdullah” propelled him to fame, leading to offers for comedic roles in various projects. Notable films he worked on include “Kadhal Palli” (1997), “Priyamudan” (1998), and “Kaathala Kaathala,” where he collaborated with Kamal Haasan.

Over the years, Vaiyapuri has continued to act in supporting roles, occasionally appearing in films starring Kamal Haasan. His portrayal of a transgender character in Mani Ratnam’s “Raavanan” marked a significant milestone in his career. In 2017, he gained media attention by participating in the reality TV show “Bigg Boss,” hosted by Kamal Haasan, and was evicted after spending 84 days in the house. Despite a shift away from separate comedy tracks in Tamil cinema, Vaiyapuri continues to work in low-budget films and maintains his collaborations with Kamal Haasan in projects like “Uttama Villain” (2015) and “Papanasam” (2015).
