TheatreVinayan is the director of the 2009 Tamil drama film Naalai Namadhe. Playing supporting parts are Manivannan, Ashish Vidyarthi, Rajan P. Dev, Tanikella Bharani, M. S. Bhaskar, Charle, and newcomer Pradeep. The film also stars Sharwanand, Sanusha, Karthika Mathew, Kiran Rathod, and Oviya. The release date was April 10, 2009. On April 10, 2014, the Malayalam version of the movie, titled India Today, was released.
Rich industrialist Udayappa (Ashish Vidyarthi) gives 1800 crores to charitable causes in his district. He asks two slum-dwellers, Mani (Manivannan) and his adopted son Ramu (Pradeep), to be given the responsibility of spending the money by district collector Priya Alexander (Karthika Mathew). Udayappa gives the order to construct homes for slum inhabitants using the funds.
The inebriated Raju, the avaricious politician Mahaganapathy’s son, tries to rape Mani’s adoptive daughter Shanthi one night, but Sarasu, a prostitute played by Kiran Rathod, intervenes to protect Shanthi from her attacker. When Raju is called as the chief guest to a school ceremony the following day, he is taken aback to find Shanthi, a schoolgirl. After that, Shanthi addresses the public and urges Raju to assist the slum residents. Declaring his love for her, Raju resolves to change for the better. Threatening to take over the money that Udayappa gave, Mahaganapathy and Ramasamy demand that Mani give them the 1800 crores. In order to stop the blackmail, Mani and Ramu then abduct Mahaganapathy. When Udayappa is being kidnapped, Maha Ganapathy finds his dead body.
