Michael

Story:

Michael is a 2023 Telugu-language neo-noir action thriller film produced by Sree Venkateswara Cinemas and Karan C Entertainments, with writing and directing by Ranjit Jeyakodi. The main actors in the movie are Varun Sandesh, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Divyansha Kaushik, Vijay Sethupathi, and Sundeep Kishan. The final scenes of the movie were reshot in Tamil after being initially filmed in Telugu.

On February 3, 2023, Michael was made available in Telugu. Subtitled versions of the film were also released in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada. Critics gave the movie mixed reviews, and it brought in ₹11 crore (US$1.4 million) at the box office.

Plot
As a gangster in the 1980s, Michael is reared by his right-hand man, Swamy, and is trained by Bombay-based crime boss Gurunath. But Amarnath, the son of Gurunath, and Charulatha, his wife, consistently reject him. After a gang attacks Gurunath one day, he finds out that Rathan, his rival, was the one responsible. Michael is dispatched by Gurunath to kill Rathan and his daughter Theera in Delhi.

But Michael chooses not to kill Rathan after falling in love with Theera. Michael, Theera, and Rathan are taken prisoner one night and taken to Amarnath. He admits that he planned the assault on his father in order to replace him. Additionally, he informs Michael that although Theera had been acting as though she loved him earlier, she now really does.

Amarnath shoots Michael, seriously hurting him, and kills Rathan. Michael is thrown into the sea by Amarnath’s men, but he makes it to Amarnath’s hiding place. Before killing Amarnath, he wounds and kills nearly all of his men. Later, he leaves with Theera in tow.

When Michael tells Gurunath that he killed Amarnath, the latter vows to take retribution. To retrieve Amarnath’s corpse, Charulatha and Gurunath travel to his hiding place. In return for his position, Gurunath issues a bounty to kill Michael and Theera. Kannamma and her retired police officer husband take in Michael and Theera so they can hide from Gurunath’s men.

Michael and Theera will be staying with him, Kannamma’s husband informs Gurunath over the phone. Gurunath orders his soldiers to murder them. But when they get there, Kanamma’s husband tricks them into believing that he and Kannamma have killed Gurunath’s men.

Theera learns from Kannamma and her husband that Michael’s mother Jennifer, a singer, was unaware that her son was already married to Charulatha and was having an affair with him.

When Jennifer found out she was pregnant with Michael, Charulatha became enraged. She attempted to kill her by setting her home on fire, but Jennifer made it out alive and went on to work as a prison cook while taking care of Michael.

Swamy was always there to support him and was also aware of his past. Returning to Bombay, Michael confronts Gurunath at his mansion, disclosing his relationship with him as well as Amarnath’s attempt to subjugate him. Subsequently, Michael exacts revenge on Charulatha and Gurunath for the wrong done to his mother.

Subsequently, Michael gets back together with Theera and seizes control of Gurunath’s empire, emerging as Bombay’s new crime lord. Subsequently, a new gang headed by Gurunath’s twin brother kidnaps Swamy. Charulatha was the only person to whom Gurunath had revealed this. Following his discovery of Michael, Gurunath’s brother vows retaliation.
