Ranjit Jeyakodi

Biography:

Indian filmmaker Ranjit Jeyakodi has helmed films in the languages of Tamil and Telugu. After becoming well-known for the thriller drama Puriyatha Puthir (2017), he went on to direct feature films, such as the action drama Michael in Telugu (2023) and the romantic drama Ispade Rajavum Idhaya Raniyum (2019).

While pursuing a Visual Communications degree at Loyola College in Chennai, Ranjit gained experience in filmmaking. He later worked as an associate of director Ram.

With the thriller Puriyatha Puthir (2017), which starred Vijay Sethupathi and Gayathrie in the key roles, Ranjit made his feature film directing debut. The movie, which was titled Mellisai, was finished filming by 2014. However, due to financial difficulties faced by the production company, the film’s release was postponed and took place three years later.

The lead roles in his second movie, Ispade Rajavum Idhaya Raniyum (2019), were played by romantic dramatists Harish Kalyan and Shilpa Manjunath. Ranjit referred to the movie beforehand as a “dark love story”. A reviewer said “it’s impressive that despite being a toxic romance between a broken man and a healing woman, Ranjith’s treatment of how love occurs between them is surprisingly respectable”

After that, Ranjit contributed to the Telugu-language action movie Michael (2023), which starred Sundeep Kishan in the lead role. Critics gave the movie a mixed response when it debuted.

Michael is a genre film that succeeds in telling a somber coming-of-age story about a young man who discovers what it means to be human, for better or worse. Neeshita Nyayapati of The Times of India gave it three out of five stars. If that’s your kind of movie, watch it.”

Michael is a gangster film that, for the most part, is more about style than plot, according to Latha Srinivasan of India Today, who gave it 2.5 out of 5 stars. That being said, Sam CS, Vijay Sethupathi, and Sundeep Kishan are the standout performers of this movie.

Yaarukkum Anjael, which features Bindu Madhavi and Darshana Banik in the lead roles, will be his next release. Despite Ranjit’s commitment to making Michael, the film’s theatrical release was postponed until 2020.
