Swanand Kirkire, a versatile Indian artist, is recognized for his contributions as a lyricist, playback singer, writer, assistant director, actor, and dialogue writer in both Marathi and Hindi television and films.
Kirkire’s talent has been acknowledged with prestigious awards, including the National Film Award for Best Lyrics twice. He first won in 2006 for the song “Bande Me Tha Dum…Vande Mataram” from the movie Lage Raho Munna Bhai, followed by another win in 2009 for “Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh” from 3 Idiots.
Additionally, he received a Filmfare Award nomination for Best Lyrics for “Piyu Bole” in Parineeta (2005). In 2018, he earned another National Film Award, this time for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the Marathi film Chumbak. Kirkire also made a memorable appearance as Sansad ji in Panchayat 3.
Born on April 29, 1972, and raised in Rambagh, Indore, in a Marathi-speaking family to parents Chintamani and Neelambari, both of whom are classical singers, Kirkire did not undergo formal singing training.
After completing his commerce graduation, he relocated to Delhi, where he graduated from the National School of Drama in 1996 and ventured into theatre.
