Born on April 29, 1991, Helen Nelson is an Indian actress who works in Tamil and Malayalam films. Her stage name is Oviya. Prior to starring in other films such as Pandiraj’s Marina (2012), Moodar Koodam (2013), and Madha Yaanai Koottam (2013), she made her acting debut in Sarkunam’s rural romantic comedy Kalavani (2010). Oviya’s roles in the horror comedy Yaamirukka Bayamey (2014) and Sundar C’s Kalakalappu (2012) have also brought her success at the box office. Oviya made an appearance on Bigg Boss Tamil 1 in 2017.
When Oviya first started acting, she portrayed supporting roles in Malayalam films. She was particularly involved in the films Kangaroo (2007), Puthiya Mukham (2009), which starred Prithviraj, and Apoorva (2008), which was a college drama.[Reference required] After enrolling at Vimala College in Thrissur to get her BA in Functional English, Oviya was approached by director Sargunam for Kalavani (2010). Despite the producer’s doubts, Sarkunam cast her in the lead female role after finding an image of her online and was certain he had the right actor for the part.
She starred with Vimal in Kalavani, which went on to receive favourable reviews and turn into a sleeper hit at the box office.Oviya’s portrayal of a schoolgirl from a village was well-received by critics. One critic from the Hindustan Times said, “Oviya uses her eyes to say it all, and her marvellous expressions convey her gratitude.” In a similar vein, an evaluation from The Hindu said, “Oviya emotes well and looks cute, which is rare these days.”
