Former Kerala Police SP Krishnadas, who has recently resigned, is getting ready to attend a farewell party organized by his peers when CI Praveen, a junior officer, shows up to let him know that an IB report has issued a warning about the approach of a criminal. The cop discovers one of Das’s case notebooks (named “Kurup”) in his cupboard after learning that the former is retiring. Krishnadas is well known for being the DYSP officer that looked into the well-known Charlie murder case, which opened the door for Sudhakara Kurup, a fugitive who has yet to be apprehended. Kurup’s story is shown on the screen while the officer looks through the diary.
Kurup was born Gopikrishna Kurup, and after he doesn’t get his degree, his uncle sends him against his will to the Indian Air Force. He meets and becomes friends with Peter at the IAF, who, despite his love of music, was also forced to enlist. A few weeks later, the Air Force sends Peter and Kurup to Bombay with a few other prisoners. There, Kurup meets and befriends Sharadamma, the daughter of his family’s former maid, and falls in love with her, while Peter begins to enjoy his new life. Later, Peter is informed that Kurup, who was hospitalized days ago, has committed suicide. He informs the same to Sharada.
Sharada, on the other hand, receives word that Kurup is still alive and meets him in a subway, where he reveals his new name, Sudhakara Kurup. It seems that Kurup invented his death as a way to get out of the boring life in the force. He quickly weds Sharada, and the two of them go for Persia (then known as Pahlavi Iran). But other issues force Kurup and his office clerk Sabu to return to their village.
Kurup and Sabu are welcomed in Kerala by Kurup’s co-brother, Pillechan Bhasippilla (Sharada’s brother-in-law), and Kurup’s personal driver, Ponnachan, in Allepey. Kurup talks about a scheme he came up with with the three other men. He has applied for life insurance in his own name, and if Kurup’s death is proven, he can get Rs 8 Lakh. Kurup makes the decision to stage his own demise.
Next to a paddy field, an Ambassador car that appears to have been in an accident and severely burned is discovered. The driver’s seat contains a dead and burned body. When the police squad led by DYSP Krishnadas shows up, they begin their investigation. The vehicle is recognized as Kurup’s. However, Das spots match, gloves and footsteps at the site, thereby confirming that it wasn’t an accident but a murder. Das questions Pillechan which makes him suspicious of the latter. Das finds out burnt marks in Pillechan’s body and takes him into custody. In custody, Pillechan admits that he had murdered Kurup.
Das discovers that Pillai is lying, though. He requests that his coworkers double-check previous man-missing instances, which brings him to Charlie’s home, where he works as a staff member of a film distribution company. In order to fake Kurup’s death, Pillai is tortured in detention until he admits that the four of them selected the ideal victim in Charlie and then killed and burned him along with Kurup’s automobile.
The officer who was reading Das’s diary hands it to him and gives him a courteous salute before Das departs the office at the conclusion of the retirement ceremony. Leaving his professional life behind and thinking Kurup is dead, Das leaves the workplace. As soon as he does, a police officer gets a fax with a lookout notice for an international criminal who turns out to be Kurup. In the epilogue, it is shown that when Alexander was stopped by Walid, he just smiles to the camera and a newspaper story showing Walid’s death in a car accident follows, indirectly suggesting that Alexander had set a plan B with Leo’s help to end Walid in case he spotted him in the cruise.
The police search for Alexander is followed by a number of news reports and channel snippets. Returning to the present, a police officer spots and takes a picture of Alexander in 2005 on a crowded street in Helsinki. Alexander murders the photographer when he discovers that he is being photographed.
