Gopakumar

Biography:

Kerala-born Mathar Ramakrishnan Gopakumar is an Indian actor, director, and producer who was born on September 24, 1951. His acting career started with Malayalam stage plays, which led to roles in telefilms, television serials, and feature films. Over the course of his four-decade career, Gopakumar has appeared in a wide range of roles in both mainstream and art house productions. His most well-known performance was as Thommi in the 1994 film Vidheyan.

His acting career has earned him five Kerala State Television Awards and two Kerala State Film Awards.

Born on September 24, 1951, in Thiruvattar, Travancore Cochin, and currently in the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu, M. R. Gopakumar is the older son of schoolteacher N. Ramakrishnan Nair.

B. Amma Kamalabai. Gopakumar attended Thiruvattar Lower Primary School for his elementary schooling and Thiruvattar High School for his high school studies. His pre-university studies were completed at Christian College in Marthandam. He then enrolled in Pioneer Kumaraswamy College in Nagercoil, where he earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Later, he enrolled in Mar Ivanios College in Thiruvananthapuram to pursue a Master of Commerce degree after graduating. When he enrolled at Mar Ivanios College, he moved to Thiruvananthapuram.

Gopakumar began working for the Indian government in 1973 as an auditor with P&T Audit under the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, following the completion of his master’s degree. Gopakumar went into the Government of India’s Postal Accounts Department following the division of this department. In September 2011, he retired as an Assistant Accounts Officer from Postal Accounts.
