Plot
A time machine is created in 2065 by a scientist. He programs it to return in forty seconds and sends it back in time to 2015 to demonstrate its capabilities. The machine doesn’t come back, though.
Three people see the time machine in 2015: Elango, an aspiring businessman whose ideas are rejected by everyone and who is having trouble keeping up his relationship with his wealthy girlfriend Anu, who feels embarrassed by Elango’s unemployment; Pulivetti Arumugam, Elango’s best friend, a phony astrologer; and Giridhara Parthasarathy, an inventor who makes a living by fixing household appliances.
After being in an accident, the three of them see the time machine as they get over their shock. Elango and Arumugam steal the time machine from Parthasarathy’s shop when Parthasarathy gets an electric shock and goes into a coma, despite his decision to keep it for himself.
The pair utilize the time machine to travel back in time and recover items that people have misplaced while posing as astrologers, giving the impression that Arumugam’s astrology practice is successful.
Elango goes one step further in impressing Anu’s industrialist father Rajarathinam with the machine by traveling to the future, retrieving the stock market results, and “predicting” them with success in front of Rajarathinam and the board of directors of his company. Rajarathinam quickly gives his approval for Anu and Elango’s marriage.
Everything goes according to plan until one of Elango and Arumugam’s journeys back in time to get another item for Arumugam’s client accidentally thwarts an encounter to assassinate Kuzhandaivelu, a notorious gangster and extortionist who is targeting Rajarathinam.
Kuzhandaivelu is currently preparing a scheme to assassinate Rajarathinam for his involvement in the encounter’s planning, as well as Elango and Arumugam for their unintentional attacks on him in a parking lot. This causes Elango and Anu’s marriage to be put on hold indefinitely.
Elango and Arumugam attempt to correct their error by traveling back in time, but in the process of fighting a police officer, Kuzhandaivelu unintentionally shoots the time machine, causing damage. When Parthasarathy awakens from his coma, they find him and ask him to mend the time machine.
Parthasarathy does not remember them. Even though Parthasarathy is able to repair the time machine, it can only transport the user to a particular point in the past—the time when Kuzhandaivelu broke it—and cannot travel back in time to the future because the date cannot be altered.
