Thirukumaran Entertainment Production Studio is owned by Tamil film director, producer, and distributor C.V. Kumar. Originally known as C. Vijayakumar, he finished his education at Madurai and enrolled in Madurai Kamaraj University to study commerce. He also graduated from the University of Madras with a master’s degree in psychology.
Kumar trained as an animator and sound designer at Arena Multimedia in Madurai in 2002. Inspired by films like The Lord of the Rings and the sci-fi thriller “The Matrix,” Kumar felt compelled to establish a production company that produces films of such exceptional caliber.
In 2010, Thirukumaran Entertainment, the product of his revelation, came to pass. When Kumar cast total amateurs like Dinesh Ravi and Nandita Swetha in his first production, Attakathi, it was clear that he had a keen eye for finding new potential. Pa. Ranjith, who had previously helped Venkat Prabhu, was directing for the first time with this movie as well.
The rights of Attakathi were purchased by the production company Studio Green, and Kumar paid an outrageous sum of Rs. 25 lakhs for the movie’s audio distribution.Audiences greeted the movie favorably, and it appeared to be the ideal mentorship for Kumar to familiarize himself with the workings of production and distribution.
The next film in line for development, the horror-thriller “Pizza,” had roughly Rs. 2 crores invested in its production, print, distribution, and promotion the same year. It continued to be another critical and economic triumph. “Pizza,” directed by Karthik Subbaraj in his directorial debut, featured Remya Nambeesan and Vijay Sethupathi as the lead characters.
At the 7th Vijay Awards, the movie received five nominations and won three of them in various categories. Kumar’s third project, “Soodhu Kavvum,” debuted in 2013. It was inspired by common problems that impact society in one way or another. Kumar’s production company earned approximately Rs. 50 crores from his first three endeavors.
Pizza 2: The Village, Thegidi, Mundaasupatti, Sarabham, Ennakul Oruvan, “Indu Netru Naalai,” and 144 were among the films Kumar created after his success with them. It is reasonable to conclude that Kumar is among the most successful film producers the Tamil film industry has ever produced when the money made from the films he has produced is compared to the initial investment.
