Plot
In the opening scene of the movie, Emperor Kaushika is hunting when he stops at Vasishta’s Ashram and discovers a divine cow named Kamadhenu that grants all wishes. Kaushika asks Vasishta for blessings in abundance. But when Vasishta refuses, Kaushika reaches for it, and Kamadhenu vanishes.
In this instance, Kaushika’s penance of wisdom triumphs over power. As a result, he gives up his dominion, accomplishes a great deed, and becomes Brahmarshi, nobilitating as Vishvamitra. After his mentor Vasishta curses him to become a horrifying creature, Trishanku, a member of Suryavansha, hopes to go to paradise using his mortal body.
He goes straight to Viswamitra, who grants his wish, but Indra throws him off. Furious, Viswamitra interrupts him midway and, using his willpower, regenerates a new heaven by approving his penance.
Vasishta once told Viswamitra that a man with purpose and resolve is stronger than the gods in the Indra court. Viswamitra chooses Ayodhya’s ruler Harishchandra.
First, he makes a great desire, which he grants without hesitation. He then conjures up two gorgeous women, Matanga Kanyalu, and threatens to weave them or leave the realm in order to entice him.
When Viswamitra follows his sidekick Nakshatraka and requests his dues within a month, Harichandra forfeits his kingdom. Thus, Harishchandra travels to Kaasi and discovers that people are being sold into slavery.
Short of time, he shops her and his son Lohitha at auction when Siva, in the guise of Kaala Kaushika, advises him to do so. After that, he works as a guard at the graveyard and sells himself to King Veerabahu of the graveyard in exchange for travel expenses.
Unfortunately, Lohitha gets bitten by a snake and dies while Chandramathi is arranging his burial; obligingly, Harishchandra refuses to pay the amount. Whereas it is undetectable to others, he points to her wedding chain when she recognizes him as her spouse.
Even in these pitiful circumstances, Harishchandra refuses to give, so Chandramathi runs to get the money. Viswamitra then reveals that Kaasiraju’s son was kidnapped and killed by Chandramathi.
The King gives her the death penalty and gives Harishchandra the authority to carry it out. He is still following his genuine path. Viswamitra emerges out of nowhere, declares that he has disseminated his fame throughout the cosmos, and grants him recognition with his power of penance.
As the ages pass, Viswamitra plans to conduct a Yaga, but two demons stand in the way, Maricha Subahulu. Upon moving to Ayodhya, he asks Dasaratha to dispatch Rama Lakshmana in order to retrieve its shield.
At that moment, he gives them the go-ahead to use the formidable weapons, which allows them to eliminate Tataki and Marichasubhahulu and finish the ceremony.
Then Janaka tells Sita about Swayamvar, and Viswamitra and the siblings depart for Mithila. With the help of Viswamitra, Rama defeats Ravana, who is summoned without being invited, and successfully executes the famous Siva bow. Viswamitra then blesses the recentlyweds and begins his penance.
When the couple is happy for a baby girl, Indra tries to stop it after thousands of years and sends Menaka. In any case, they drive her out, and since birds covered her, Kanva raises her as Shakuntala. When Shakuntala is discovered, the Dushyanta empire of Hastinapur crushes and splices her in accordance with the Gandharva.
He gives her his royal ring as a sign of his love before leaving. As Durvasa curses that the person she dreams of will forget her, Shakuntala loses consciousness and forgets to greet him when he arrives at Ashram one day.
Then he settles down and says he’ll remember everything when he sees his token. Shakuntala conceives after some time, and Kanva sends her to Dushyanta. Halfway through, when they cross a river, the ring falls off her finger and gets eaten by a fish. Dushyanta finds her there but doesn’t recognize her.
Shakuntala leaves, humiliated, and Kashyapa takes her in, bringing Bharata to her. The fishermen find a fish’s belly ring and give it to Dushyanta, who uses it to recall the past.
When he seems surprised to see a youngster playing with wild animals, he runs for Shakuntala. When Viswamitra arrives, she reunites the couple and bestows upon Bharata the title of greatest ruler in India.
Finally, Viswamitra’s penance reaches the top of the Himalayas, where he uses it to preach the famous Gayatri Mantra for the benefit of all people. As one of the stars at Saptarishi Mandalam, Viswamitra receives salvation at the end of a happy film.
