Sathyan Sivakumar, often referred to as Sathyan, is an Indian actor and comedian known for his work in Tamil cinema. He is the single child of the renowned producer Madhampatty Sivakumar. His introduction to the film industry began as a junior artist in the film “Poovum Puyalum,” and he took on his first lead role in “Ilaiyavan.” However, he has predominantly taken up supporting and comedic roles in over sixty Tamil films since then.
Sathyan was born into the family of film producer Mathampatti Sivakumar. His uncle is the actor Sathyaraj, and his cousin is Sibiraj. He pursued his education at PSG College of Arts and Science in Coimbatore. After completing his BBM degree, he made his entry into the film world by starring in the lead role of the Ilaiyaraaja musical “Ilaiyavan,” a film produced by his father. Although he initially acted in movies like “Kanna Unnai Thedukiren,” where he played the lead, these films did not perform well at the box office, leading Sathyan to transition into comedy roles. He later played a significant role in “Maayavi” (2005), sharing the screen with Suriya and Jyothika.
Following a series of smaller supporting roles, he gained prominence by playing Srivatsan’s character in Shankar’s “Nanban” (2012). He continued his association with Vijay by featuring in a pivotal role in A R Murugadoss’s “Thuppakki.” Sathyan also played a lead role in adventure films like “Onbadhule Guru” (2013) and “Naveena Saraswathi Sabatham” (2013). Additionally, he starred in the commercially successful romantic comedy “Raja Rani” (2013).
