Plot: Sethuraman, a renowned watchmaker, and brilliant scientist, resides with his wife Priya and their newborn son Manikandan. His entire focus has been on creating a watch-based time machine. Sethuraman succeeded in finishing his invention in January 1990, but it can only move back and forth in time for a full day.
His joy is short-lived, though, as Athreya, his evil twin brother, attacks the family and murders Priya in order to obtain the watch. Though he does not find the watch itself, he does find the key to the box it was hidden in. Athreya follows closely behind an injured Sethuraman as he escapes with his son on a train, unable to use the watch and terrified for his life.
Sethuraman approaches Athreya and begs the woman he meets on the train, Sathyabhama, to look after his son. After deceiving Athreya into believing he is carrying a bomb, he kills Sethuraman in a hurry and jumps off the train, seemingly to his death.
After 26 years, Manikandan, also known as Mani, is a skilled watch mechanic who still thinks Sathyabhama is his mother. It is revealed that Mani, who was raised in ignorance of the contents of the locked box and his real parents, was placed with Sethuraman along with the box that held his watch. Mani falls in love with Sathya after meeting her.
Athreya, who was in a coma after surviving his fall, wakes up somewhere else after 26 years and is horrified to see that he is much older and paralyzed from the waist down. Mithran, his reliable confidante, looks after him.
When Mani finds the box’s key through an amazing series of coincidences, he opens it and finds the watch inside. After learning of its amazing powers, such as its 30-second time freeze, he wonders where the watch came from and how he came to own it.
Athreya is obsessed with the watch and longs to travel back in time to relive his lost youth because he is upset about having lost 26 years of his life and becoming paraplegic. Mithran runs a commercial promising INR 5 crores (fifty million) in exchange for the lost watch. Mani surmises that the advertisement’s creator is aware of the watch’s capabilities. Mani makes an exact copy of the original using the original to discover the truth, and he and his friend go to the specified address.
At work, Athreya discovers that Mani is the owner of the original watch when she sees his copy among innumerable others. He calls the two of them into the office, where he murders Mani and seizes the watch. After reversing time, an ecstatic Athreya discovers that the watch is only capable of transferring its wearer back in time 24 hours, waking up the previous night at 12 am.
It dawns on him that only Mani has the ability to enhance the watch. Mani is still alive and their confrontation at the office has not yet happened since the day’s events have turned around. Then, Athreya makes the decision to persuade Mani that he is Sethuraman by pretending that he has a terminal illness.
Disguised as Sethuraman, Athreya tracks down Mani and uses his deceit to upgrade the watch, allowing for longer time jumps. After finding an extra finger on a photo of his father that Athreya had given him, Mani is able to successfully upgrade the watch, but he discovers Athreya’s true identity and the reason behind his parents’ deaths. He goes back to 1990 to warn them after tricking Athreya into disclosing the date of his parents’ passing.
After finding the updated watch, Sethuraman understands that Mani has gone back in time to warn them. Now that he is ready, Sethuraman uses his watch to effectively stop time, eliminate Athreya, and get away from his goons. Sethu complies with Priya’s request to discard the watch because she’s had enough of the past.
After boarding the same train as Sathyabhama, Sethu and Priya strike up a conversation. Sethu informs Sathyabama that he teaches science, and she invites them to come work at her family’s school since they are looking to hire a science teacher. For a happy and new beginning, Sethu and Priya consent to it. A young Sathya and Mani are seen conversing as the movie comes to a close.
