Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru

Story:

“Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru,” also known simply as “Theeran,” is a 2017 Indian Tamil-language action thriller directed and written by H. Vinoth. Produced by S. R. Prakashbabu and S. R. Prabhu under Dream Warrior Pictures, the film is inspired by real-life events from the Operation Bawaria case.

The story follows Theeran, portrayed by Karthi, a police officer leading a squad in Tamil Nadu tasked with combating dacoits. Rakul Preet Singh and Abhimanyu Singh also star in pivotal roles.

Vinoth had conceptualized the script before his directorial debut, “Sathuranga Vettai,” and extensively researched the subject by consulting police officers involved in similar cases. Principal photography commenced in January 2017 and wrapped up in July, with filming conducted in various locations across Chennai and North India to ensure authenticity.

The film’s cinematography was handled by Sathyan Sooryan, with editing by Sivanandeeswaran. The soundtrack and film score were composed by Ghibran.

Upon its release on 17 November 2017, “Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru” received critical acclaim for its direction, writing, cinematography, soundtrack, and performances, particularly by Karthi. Critics praised its realistic portrayal of the Tamil Nadu Police and the authenticity in depicting the incidents. It emerged as a commercial success, grossing ₹96 crore.

The film also received several awards and nominations, including recognition at the Ananda Vikatan Cinema Awards, Techofes Awards, Edison Awards, and Vijay Awards. It garnered nominations at the South Indian International Movie Awards and Filmfare Awards, winning Best Tamil Actor (Critics) for Karthi.

In October 2023, a sequel to the film was announced, further solidifying its impact and legacy in Tamil cinema.
