Plot
Sethupathi is a Madras mobster in 1986 who leads a group of 100 thugs who act as vigilantes. Sethupathi’s adversaries storm into their home one day with the intention of killing him. His wife, Annalakshmi, goes into labour when the baby kicks her in the tummy. While Sethupathi and Annalakshmi are together, the gang beats the invaders. Annalakshmi dies after giving birth to a boy. Mansoor, Sethupathi’s right-hand man, takes the boy and calls him Vikram, also known as Sulthan. Sulthan views the gang as his brothers since they raise him with love and care. After growing up, Sulthan pursues robotics engineering overseas.
A village chief orders Jayaseelan’s murder in 2021, and he murders numerous farmers and sets their fields on fire. When Mansoor asks Sethupathi to do something constructive with the head’s case, he says he will kill Jayaseelan. Sulthan, meantime, makes his magnificent entrance into the community. The gang is attacked one day by some individuals posing as pizza delivery men. Sethupathi is hurt, and one of the gang members is critically injured and taken to the hospital.
Sulthan is tarnished because the goon’s mother is upset. Sethupathi is killed after Sulthan confronts him and declares he will never return. Sulthan finds out from his attorney during Sethupathi’s burial that the assailants were policemen dispatched by Commissioner Manickavel to take Sethupathi’s life. Commissioner Manickavel grants him six months but does not pursue any charges in response to his request for a chance to rehabilitate the gang. Sulthan prohibits Mansoor’s twenty men—among them Otta Lorry—from killing Jayaseelan. Sulthan captures them as they attempt to flee covertly. In the village, Otta Lorry pretends to have received a marriage proposal.
To stay out of danger, Sulthan brings his whole gang to a village, where the people accept Mansoor’s pledge to kill Jayaseelan. Sulthan falls in love with the bride, Rukmani, who is the head’s daughter. The group tracks Jayaseelan in secret with the intention of killing him, but their efforts are fruitless. The hamlet learns that Jayaseelan is searching for the iron in a mountain and that the only way to stop him is to demonstrate that their fields are fertile and capable of supporting agriculture.
After receiving a rebuke from Rukmani, Sulthan foils Mansoor and the gang’s plan to kill Jayaseelan. Jayaseelan and his men are severely beaten by an enraged Sulthan. In order to bring about peace, the police force launches a sting operation to eliminate all of the city’s criminals. After hearing the news, Sulthan decides to stay in the community for five months, working in the fields day and night. John Dhar, a corporate entrepreneur, shows up and offers to buy the mountain, but Sulthan declines.
Sulthan defeats John Dhar’s angry goons, who are sent to assassinate him. Gang member Michael grows resentful of Sulthan when the two of them fight over a man who sexually abused a woman and Sulthan beats him up. The gang’s labours are soon rewarded when plants begin to grow on their property. Amith Raj, a member of the Ministry of Mines, delays the inspection so that John Dhar can demonstrate that the lands are barren, which infuriates John. Rukmani accepts the marriage proposal and feels the same way Sulthan does. Rukmani and Sulthan get engaged in a lavish ceremony in front of the gang and the townspeople. Sulthan sells his house and uses his savings to purchase two acres of land for a gang.
Mansoor is fatally stabbed by John Dhar’s thugs that night on the bus, but Sulthan defeats them. Mansoor’s injuries cause his death. Sulthan intervenes when the gang gets ready to murder the merchant. The group despises Sulthan after he overpowers Michael when he challenges him to a fight. John Dhar intends to set the town on fire after the gang abandons Sulthan and the village, leaving him sad. He brought people to kill Sulthan and the villagers, Jayaseelan tells Sulthan over the phone. Sulthan makes the decision to defend the community from John Dhar and Jayaseelan.
He stays behind to guard the town even though he evacuates the residents. Many of John Dhar’s goons are killed by Sulthan, his guard, Gada, and a few farmers, but Sulthan sustains injuries when the businessman and his men approach at night and burn the fields. John Dhar and his men are beaten and killed by Sulthan. When the gang finds out about Sulthan’s sacrifices to protect them, they show there, and Michael apologises to Sulthan. Jayaseelan and his men come with an abducted Rukmani. They kill Jayaseelan and his soldiers after making amends with Sulthan. Sulthan and Rukmani observe as the gang resumes their agricultural labour.
