Operation Tral

Story:

You wouldn’t expect music director Ratheesh Vega, who has composed songs for films like Beautiful, Cocktail, and Nammukku Parkkan, to work on a war-action movie. However, the composer-turned-director has made that precise decision for Operation Tral, his first feature picture.

In an exclusive discussion, Ratheesh tells OTTplay, “Operation Tral is based on a terrorist attack that happened in Tral, Pulwama.” It is based on real-life occurrences. The events that took place in 2013 have been moved to 2018, when the film’s plot takes place. I have been working on the script for about four years.

The title trailer for the film showed a convoy being assaulted and backup being needed. The film is around a pivotal encounter between the Indian Army and militants. The creators claim that Operation Tral will also provide insight into the nation’s security services and how they handle terrorism threats.

Thrissurpooram, which also starred Jayasurya, was previously written by Ratheesh. Jayasurya says, “I have always told him that he could direct a film because whenever he has narrated a story to me, I could easily visualize it,” in reference to their impending project. I was therefore totally in favor of him leading Operation Tral when he announced his desire to do so. It’s an intriguing script that will be produced on a large scale and is based on actual happenings. Kashmir, Ladakh, Delhi, Coimbatore, and other locales in Kerala are the main destinations for the 120 days that the production has set aside for the film’s primary photography.

Ratheesh had previously collaborated on a military film as a composer for Major Ravi’s Picket 43. “I have always loved watching war movies in theaters,” he responds when asked why he chose this genre for his debut. As a filmmaker, you tend to make the movies you want, but people associate my music with the softer kind of movies, or at least that’s where I have more options.  In December 2026, Operation Tral will be released in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi. He will also be in charge of the soundtrack and background score.
