TheatreJyothika soars as Vijayalakshmi, a housewife who finds her voice hosting a late-night radio show in “Kaatrin Mozhi.” This Tamil remake of “Tumhari Sulu” blends humor and heart as Vijayalakshmi navigates family, dreams, and societal expectations. Catchy title, inspiring story, electrifying performance – “Kaatrin Mozhi” takes flight, celebrating self-discovery and female empowerment.
Chromepet housewife Vijji, a whiz at winning lemon races and singing contests, dreams of flying beyond the confines of her middle-class life. Stuck in a dead-end marriage and mocked by her sisters, she finds solace in her son and a flicker of hope in a radio station contest. When her retro song tickles the funny bone of top RJ Anjali, a spark ignites. Ignoring the receptionist’s snubs, Vijji insists on an audition, determined to prove she’s got more than just lemon and spoon skills. Will she find her voice on air? Tune in to Vijji’s journey, where laughter and hope collide in the heart of Chromepet.
Vijji’s bubbly charm wins over radio boss Maria, who sees past the giggles and offers a late-night call-in show. Unsure of the sensual voice act, Vijji playfully tests the waters, leaving a grocery owner baffled with a phantom broom request. Maria, swamped, misses her calls, but Vijji’s relentless messages ignite a spark. Balu’s initial disapproval melts, and Vijji, ready to navigate the airwaves, takes flight with Chromepet as her copilot.
Vijji’s radio debut brings mixed blessings. Her sharp wit handles a crass caller, but her on-air passion sparks conflict with Balu, already frustrated by his own boss. Family tension escalates as her sisters and son’s school cast blame, forcing Vijji to choose between her job and her family. When her son’s misdeeds surface, leading to his suspension and accusations of neglect, Vijji takes a stand, defying expectations and leaving for work. Amidst the chaos, a stolen phone and a missing note reveal her son’s remorse, prompting him to urge Balu to support Vijji’s dream.
One month later, the tide turns. Balu finds success in the tiffin business, and Vijji, back on air, juggles family and career with her signature flair. The film ends with a testament to Vijji’s resilience, her voice soaring above the challenges, proving that even a Chromepet housewife can rise above the ordinary.
