Biography:

Chakri was the stage name of Gilla Chakradhar, an Indian music composer and performer who performed in Telugu movies from 15 June 1974 until 15 December 2014. He received two awards: the Nandi Award for Best Music Director (2010) for Simha and the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer – Telugu (2003) for Satyam.

On June 15, 1974, in the Telangana village of Kambalapalli, in the Mahabubabad district, Gilla Chakradhar was born.

Chakri was a well-known composer of music. He has appeared in about 85 films. With the Puri Jagannadh-directed film Bachi, he launched his career as a music director. He received a Nandi Award for Simha and the Tollywood Filmfare Award for Best Singer for Satyam. He worked on nine films with actor Ravi Teja and 10 films with director Puri Jagannadh, producing several musical blockbusters for both.

In 2004, Chakri wed Sravani not long after divorcing his first spouse. He has three sisters and a brother.

Chakri passed away peacefully on December 15, 2014. He was taken to a neighboring hospital by his wife, Sravani, where at around 7:45 AM he was declared dead. Chakri had acquired comorbidities brought on by obesity.

Chakri and the producer Paruchuri Prasad were accused of molestation in 2013 after they were reported to have misbehaved with a 36-year-old woman at a party. According to the police, Chakri was invited to the party by the victim, who was also his buddy. Chakri and Prasad “behaved with her” while intoxicated during the party. The two had been detained for assault on a woman with the purpose of insulting her modesty.
