Sunil Reddy, born on 30 November 1974, is an Indian actor primarily active in Tamil cinema. He gained recognition for portraying the character Mahaali in Doctor (2021) and has since become a frequent collaborator in director Nelson’s films.
Earlier in his career, Sunil worked as a presenter for Telugu films featuring his younger brother, Vaibhav Reddy. These films, such as Godava (2007) and Kasko (2009), were directed or produced by their father, A. Kodandarami Reddy.
Director Balaji Tharaneetharan was in search of an actor to play the antagonist in Seethakaathi (2018) and chose Sunil after a chance meeting at a birthday party hosted by one of the producer’s partners. Observing that Sunil’s acting needed refinement, Tharaneetharan advised him to take a short-term acting course. A critic later praised Sunil’s performance in the film, especially highlighting a scene at the Tamil Film Producers Council, calling it “a scream.”
Impressed by his role in Seethakaathi, director Lokesh Kanagaraj cast him in Master (2021). In November 2019, Sunil joined the film’s shoot in Delhi. His portrayal of the small-time crook Mahaali in Doctor (2021) earned him notable acclaim. He went on to reprise this role in Beast and also appeared in Jailer, both of which were helmed by Nelson.
