Plot
The movie commences with a man who identifies himself as “The Common Man” dating an attractive woman. However, under the guise of escorting her home, he takes her to an isolated location and brutally ends her life. Before committing this heinous act, he records a video on her phone where she narrates her role in securing a conviction for her client’s husband as a lawyer, which he subsequently broadcasts on a news channel.
Leading a team of special forces is Rangeela, who is tasked with pursuing The Common Man, a serial killer who specifically targets accomplished and self-reliant professional women. By day, The Common Man holds a white-collar job and resides with his mother. He has a team that monitors the special forces and eliminates one of their agents. After a painstaking search, Rangeela locates an undercover agent named Durga, who is a housewife and sometimes bumbles in her work. She lives with her husband, in-laws, and a school-going child.
Rangeela persuades Durga to go undercover and reveal the identity of The Common Man. Initially, Durga declines, as it has been 13 years, and her cover has become her life’s reality. However, with persistent effort, Rangeela convinces Durga to accept the mission. She requests refresher training, but Rangeela rejects this idea, fearing it would expose her to The Common Man’s informants.
Durga’s initial task is to trail an individual who plans to exchange a package at Victoria Memorial at 8:30 pm. Durga, who is quick-witted, skillfully manages her household responsibilities while carrying out her undercover work, and she traces a person entering a girls’ college.
Meanwhile, Durga encounters a woman named Ayesha, who has rented a neighboring house. Subsequently, Durga is enrolled in a course at the same college. Her husband mocks her ambitions and vehemently opposes her taking the course. This conversation is overheard by her mother-in-law, who advises her son on the importance of supporting his wife’s pursuits rather than trying to control her.
On her first day at college, Durga unexpectedly comes face-to-face with The Common Man, who is their instructor, known as Ajay Sir.
As night falls, Durga hones her skills with her son’s toy guns and video games, while during the day, she attempts to uncover The Common Man’s true identity. Ajay, in the meantime, has invited the female Chief Minister of the state to attend an art performance at his college. Rangeela urges the CM to accept the invitation, as it provides an opportunity to expose The Common Man. Accidentally, Durga stumbles upon romantic chats between Ayesha and her husband and is left in a state of shock, ceasing her duty. Rangeela visits her home and convinces her to return to her mission in exchange for access to her husband’s chat records.
Ayesha is revealed to be working for Ajay, attempting to eliminate any loose ends before executing his biggest plan: assassinating the CM. Ayesha mistakenly identifies Durga’s husband as an undercover agent and calls him to a hotel to eliminate him.
Durga, receiving the message, rushes to save her husband just in the nick of time. Her husband is shocked by her newfound abilities, but he must remain in custody to protect her cover. Late at night, Ayesha attempts to kill Durga but is ultimately eliminated by Durga herself.
The following day, during the college performance attended by the CM, Durga notices Ajay leaving the hall and deduces that he is The Common Man, with the CM as his intended target. He plans to detonate a bomb disguised as confetti at the end of the performance. Durga successfully defuses the bomb, evacuates the hall, corners Ajay, and exposes his identity as The Common Man.
Realizing that there is no escape, Ajay confronts Durga and reveals that the special forces lack credible evidence to hold him in court, meaning he would be free within hours. Durga acknowledges this deficiency and concludes that the only way to deliver justice is to kill him and create a video in the same manner he did for his victims. The CM agrees to this, and the news later reports that The Common Man is dead.
Durga’s husband apologizes for his infidelity, but she rejects his apology, citing its insincerity. The film concludes with Rangeela assigning her a new mission with a fresh cover.
