Biography:

Radhika Apte is an Indian actress who has appeared in various films and web series in the Indian entertainment industry. She was born on September 7, 1985, in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India. Radhika Apte is known for her versatile acting skills and has garnered critical acclaim for her performances in both mainstream and independent cinema.

Her father, Dr. Charudutt Apte, later pursued a career as a neurosurgeon and became the chairman of Sahyadri Hospital in Pune. Radhika Apte holds degrees in Economics and Mathematics from Fergusson College, Pune. During her early years in Pune, she initially attended a traditional school before being homeschooled alongside four friends by their parents, who wanted to avoid the conventional schooling system. This experience was liberating for Apte and boosted her self-confidence. While growing up in Pune, she received eight years of Kathak training from the renowned Kathak exponent Rohini Bhate.

Her journey into theater began during this time in Pune, which eventually led her to pursue a career in Mumbai’s film industry. However, after a few months in Mumbai, she became discouraged by her experiences and returned to her family in Pune. In a 2018 interview with Scoop Whoop, she described this period as a challenging but enlightening phase. During her time in Mumbai, she managed to sustain herself with a monthly income of ₹8,000 to ₹10,000 from theater roles, while dealing with challenging living situations as a paying guest in Goregaon. It was during this time that she acted in her first film, a Marathi movie titled “Gho Mala Asala Hawa” (2009), followed by roles in “Rakta Charitra,” “Rakta Charitra 2,” and “I Am.”

Radhika Apte began her acting career in theater and made her film debut with a brief appearance in the fantasy drama “Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi!” (2005). Her first leading role came in the 2009 Bengali social drama “Antaheen.” She gained recognition for her supporting roles in three Bollywood films in 2015: “Badlapur,” “Hunterrr,” and “Manjhi – The Mountain Man.” Her lead roles in independent films like “Phobia” and “Parched” in 2016 received critical acclaim. In 2018, she starred in three Netflix productions: “Lust Stories,” “Sacred Games,” and “Ghoul,” and was even nominated for an International Emmy Award for her work in “Lust Stories.”

Apart from her work in independent cinema, Radhika Apte has played prominent roles in mainstream films like the Tamil action film “Kabali” (2016), the Hindi biographical film “Pad Man” (2018), and the Hindi black comedy “Andhadhun” (2018), all of which were commercially successful. She has been married to London-based musician Benedict Taylor since 2012.

Radhika Apte has also ventured into short films, including “Darmiyan,” where she portrayed a college girl named Ekta, and “Vakratunda Swaha,” a project filmed by Ashish Avikunthak over 12 years. She played a leading role in Anurag Kashyap’s film on eve-teasing, “That Day After Everyday,” released on YouTube in 2012. Additionally, she played the title role in Sujoy Ghosh’s 2015 Bengali short film “Ahalya.”
