Murali Sharma, born on 9 August 1972 in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, was raised in Mumbai. His father, Vrijbhushan Sharma, is of Marathi origin, and his mother, Padma Sharma, hails from Guntur and is Telugu. Sharma refers to himself as a “Bombaywala.” He attained his bachelor’s degree and pursued acting at Mumbai’s Roshan Taneja Acting School. Murali Sharma is married to actress Ashwini Kalsekar.
Murli Sharma portrayed the character of Captain Khan in the Bollywood film Main Hoon Na (2004), starring Shahrukh Khan. He had notable roles in various Hindi movies in 2007, including Dhol, Dhamaal, Black Friday, and Telugu films Athidhi and Kantri. For his performance in Athidhi, he received a Nandi Award for his portrayal of Kaiser/Ajay Shastri. In 2008, he made appearances in the Bollywood movie Jaane Tu… Ya, Jaane Na, Golmaal Returns, and Sunday.
Sharma continued to work in both Hindi and Telugu films. In 2011, he had supporting roles in movies like Singham, Oosaravelli (starring Jr. NTR), and Dhoni (Telugu). He expanded his repertoire by appearing in his first Malayalam film, Karmayodha, alongside Mohanlal in 2012. He also worked in the Tamil and Marathi film industries in 2013.
In 2015, Sharma played more prominent roles in Gopala Gopala and Bhale Bhale Magadivoy. He also appeared in Badlapur, ABCD 2, and the Tamil film Paayum Puli. The following year, he appeared in Krishna Gaadi Veera Prema Gaadha, Savithri, Sanam Teri Kasam, and Wazir. He took on a lead role in DJ: Duvvada Jagannadham (2017), and in 2018, he appeared in Agnyaathavaasi and Vijetha. In 2019, he was seen in Saaho, while in 2020, he featured in Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, Sarileru Neekevvaru, and Street Dancer 3D, where he played the character of Valmiki in Ala Vaikunthapuramloo. In 2021, Sharma appeared in A1 Express, Sreekaram, Jathi Ratnalu, and Chaavu Kaburu Challenge.
