Delhi Ganesh, whose real name is Ganesan, is an Indian actor renowned for his work primarily in supporting roles in Tamil cinema and television serials. With a career spanning several decades, he has amassed a substantial body of work, having appeared in over 400 films since 1976. Before entering the film industry, Ganesh was a member of the Delhi-based theatre group, Dakshina Bharata Nataka Sabha. He served in the Indian Air Force from 1964 to 1974 but eventually chose to pursue a career in films. The iconic filmmaker K. Balachander bestowed upon him the stage name “Delhi Ganesh.”
Ganesh’s entry into the Tamil film industry was facilitated by K. Balachander, who introduced him in the film “Pattina Pravesam” in 1976. While he played the leading role in the 1981 film “Engamma Maharani,” he is most celebrated for his versatile performances as a supporting actor, comedian, and occasionally, even as a villain, as seen in the film “Apoorva Sagodharargal” (1989). He received recognition for his acting prowess, including the Tamil Nadu State Film Award Special Prize for his role in “Pasi” (1979), along with accolades like the Kalaimamani award (1994) conferred by the then Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.
Some of Delhi Ganesh’s most notable films include “Sindhu Bhairavi” (1985), “Nayakan” (1987), “Michael Madana Kama Rajan” (1990), “Aahaa..!” (1997), and “Thenali” (2000). Beyond his cinematic work, he also made appearances in TV serials and short films. Additionally, he ventured into film production, launching his first production, “Ennul Aayiram” (2016), which featured his son, Maha, in the lead role.
