Plot
Independence Day saw fifty thefts, two of which involved masked bandits plundering homes and taking valuables worth ₹70 million. Not a single lead, not a single piece of evidence—the whole police force is in the dark. ACP Gayathiri is tasked with the case investigation by the police. Gayathri finds out that her ex-boyfriend Major Chandru is the owner of the 50th mansion. In an attempt to protect the Ashoka Chakra medal that the government awarded to Chandru’s late father, Chandru’s grandma is hurt in the robbery. The award was taken by the thieves, nevertheless.
In an attempt to find the medal and crack the case, Chandru enlists Gayathri in the investigation. When Chandru examined the case file and the victims’ testimonies, he discovered that the thieves were quick to carry out each heist since they were aware of the precise locations of jewelry and cash in each home.
Listing the individuals who have access to the houses, Chandru learns that ‘Dial For Help’ is a company that might be engaged in this case. They discovered Marimuthu’s recurring number, which services all 50 homes. Marimuthu’s wife is home when the police arrive in a hurry. Marimuthu’s wife informs us that her husband passed away two years prior. Having run out of options, Chandru goes back.
In the meantime, the Commissioner receives a call from an enigmatic individual accusing him of being the source of all the thefts to date and challenging the police to find him. Taking this as a challenge, Chandru makes an effort to agitate the unidentified person, who then provides a hint as to where he is. They understand it alludes to a location. As they get there, they discover computers that have been destroyed. Chandru returns to distribute the hints.
He discloses that the hacker left a partial thumbprint on the scanner that was used to erase all of the data, and that the clue alludes to the queen in chess. Chandru goes on to say that because of the PM’s coming on August 23, theft would happen in 58 additional households. He therefore deftly positions police officers within the homes that are to be looted. He reveals that the hacker is a chess tutor by the name of Leela.
In a flashback, a young Leela cherished her mother and had a deep link with her, but her father was an alcoholic and violent abuser who tormented her mother. When Leela awoke one day, her mother had passed away. Her father came home with her two small sons and married another lady right away. When she returns home one day later, Leela’s father tells her that he and his new bride killed Leela’s mother by suffocating her while she was asleep.
Her mother attempted, but was unable, to wake an unconscious Leela. An infuriated Leela used her stepmother’s two sons as bait for her robberies, killing her father and stepmother by electrocuting them with leaky water. Her studies in computer technology helped her become a knowledgeable hacker. Leela was the primary planner behind the robberies and was the one who warned the brothers not to break into the residences.
After Chandru apologizes to Gayathri’s uncle for slapping him, Gayathri and Chandru mend their connection. When Chandru’s grandma awakens, she tells how she begged the bandits not to take the medal. She even gave the thieves a nose ring, but their heartless robbers kicked her back and stole the nose stud. Arrested for stealing a bike are the brothers. In an attempt to get the brothers to say the name of their stepsister, Gayathri beats them. But after the two brothers attack and hurt Gayathri, they are shot by the police, and they die as a result.
Leela and Chandru start a game of cat and mouse in which Leela tries multiple times to kill Chandru, Gayathri, and his group. At her friend Ganesh’s house, Chandru manages to apprehend Leela, retrieve the pilfered jewellery and cash concealed in schoolbags, and gives her over to the police. Leela buried his father’s medal in Chandru’s garden, and he finds it there as well. Leela, who has escaped, calls Chandru and challenges him to a new game.
