S. Ravi Varman, born on May 9, 1972, is a versatile Indian professional involved in cinematography, filmmaking, producing, and writing. His career has predominantly revolved around Indian cinema, with contributions in various languages like Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi. Ravi Varman is celebrated for his exceptional talent in capturing realism and poetry through his cinematographic work. His journey in the film industry commenced in Malayalam films.

Hailing from a village in Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur district, Ravi Varman embarked on his career by serving as an assistant to the renowned cinematographer Ravi K Chandran. After honing his craft in Malayalam cinema for three years starting in 1999, he expanded his horizons to Bollywood, contributing his cinematography skills to the film “Yeh Dil” in 2003. Subsequently, he ventured into Telugu cinema with the film “Jai” and received numerous opportunities in the Hindi film industry, including projects like “Armaan,” “Bee Busthar,” “Ramji Londonwale,” and “Phir Milenge.” His future endeavors include a collaboration with the acclaimed director Mani Ratnam.

In 2002, Ravi Varman made his entry into the Tamil film industry with “Five Star,” directed by Susi Ganeshan. His journey as a cinematographer in Tamil cinema continued with collaborations with prominent directors, including S. Shankar’s “Anniyan,” Gautham Vasudev Menon’s “Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu,” K. S.
