Story:

“Badrinath” is a 2011 Indian Telugu-language romantic action film directed by V. V. Vinayak, written by Chinni Krishna, and produced by Allu Aravind. The film features Allu Arjun in the lead role as a skilled Indian samurai named Badri. Other prominent cast members include Tamannaah Bhatia, Prakash Raj, Kelly Dorji, Ashwini Kalsekar, Rakesh Varre, Rao Ramesh, and Pragathi.

The story revolves around Badri, who is trained by his Guru and martial arts expert, Bheeshma Narayan, and is tasked with protecting the Badrinath temple. Badri’s mission involves trying to restore the faith of Alakananda, an atheist woman who has developed feelings for him, in God. However, he also faces opposition from her cruel uncle, Sarkar, and has to deal with suspicions from his Guru, who believes he may be in love with Alakananda, which would go against the rules for becoming his successor.

Allu Arjun underwent intensive martial arts and sword fighting training in Vietnam for his role as a modern-day Indian samurai. This film also marks his first on-screen pairing with Tamannaah. The cinematography for the movie was done by Ravi Varman, and the film was shot in various locations, including India, Spain, Italy, Germany, and Austria.

Initially, there were plans to release a dubbed Tamil version of the film with added comedy scenes featuring actor Santhanam, but this idea was abandoned due to the commercial failure of previous Tamil dubbed versions of Telugu films.

“Badrinath” was made on a budget of ₹42 crore (US$5.3 million), making it one of the most expensive Telugu-language films at that time. The film was originally scheduled for release on June 4, 2011, but it ultimately hit theaters on June 10, 2011, along with a dubbed Malayalam version, in 1,400 screens worldwide. While the film received negative reviews from critics, it achieved average success at the box office. It ran for 50 days in 187 theaters, indicating moderate success. Prem Rakshith won the Filmfare Award for Best Dance Choreographer for the film’s song “Nath Nath.”

The plot of the film centers around Badri, who is chosen and trained by Bheeshma Narayan to become a skilled samurai and protector of the Badrinath temple. Badri encounters Alakananda, an atheist woman, and punishes her for an act of disrespect in the temple. However, he later rescues her as per her grandfather’s request. Alakananda is ordered to light 1 lakh lamps in penance, and Badri encourages her to do so with devotion.

As the story unfolds, Alakananda’s traumatic past is revealed. She became an atheist after witnessing her parents’ death in a temple fire. Her aunt, driven by revenge, wants to forcefully marry her off to her son Nani. Badri takes it upon himself to rekindle Alakananda’s faith in God. Her feelings for Badri deepen after he performs Pind Daan, a religious ritual, for her deceased parents.

Badri is later summoned by Bheeshma to protect the Amarnath temple, whose protector has been killed. He eliminates a group of terrorists with his sword, earning public recognition. Alakananda’s faith in God is also restored, and Badri’s parents agree to their marriage. However, a dilemma arises when Bheeshma reveals that Badri must remain celibate to succeed him as his successor, putting the couple’s future in jeopardy.
