Theatre“Villu” is a 2009 Indian Tamil-language action comedy film directed by Prabhu Deva and written by AC Mugil. It features Vijay in a dual role, with Nayanthara, Prakash Raj, and Vadivelu in prominent roles. The story follows Pugazh, an educated individual, who becomes an assassin to avenge his father’s murder by infiltrating and dismantling a criminal gang led by J. D., a wealthy arms smuggler. Pugazh’s mission takes him from India to Munich, Germany, where he confronts J. D.’s henchmen one by one.
Janavi, the daughter of J. D., falls in love with Pugazh but later discovers his intentions to kill her father. Pugazh’s mother reveals the tragic truth that Pugazh’s father, Major Saravanan, was an honorable army officer who was betrayed and killed by J. D. and his gang while on a peacekeeping mission. The villagers ostracized their family, and Pugazh grew up unaware of his true identity. In the present day, J. D. and Pugazh return to India to retrieve critical information, leading to a final showdown where Pugazh exposes the truth about his father’s death and seeks revenge.
Ultimately, Pugazh avenges his father by defeating J. D. and revealing the truth to the villagers, leading to the restoration of his father’s honor and military recognition. The film received mixed reviews, with praise for Vijay and Vadivelu’s comedic performances but criticism for its screenplay and dialogue. “Villu” is a tale of vengeance, secrets, and redemption within a backdrop of action and comedy.
