Story:

Debora Cahn is the creator of the American political thriller television series The Diplomat. It debuted in 2023 and features Keri Russell as a seasoned American diplomat who, in the midst of a developing global catastrophe, is unexpectedly selected as the ambassador to the United Kingdom.

On April 20, 2023, the series debuted on Netflix. The third season of the show, which debuted on October 16, 2025, was renewed in October 2024. The show received a fourth season renewal in May 2025.

The Diplomat’s narrative, pacing, and performances—especially those of Russell and (starting in season 2) Allison Janney—have won praise from critics. The show received a nomination for Outstanding Drama Series at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards in 2025. Russell has received nominations for two Golden Globes, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and two Primetime Emmy Awards.

The show follows Kate Wyler, the recently appointed US ambassador to the UK, as she navigates her new role in the spotlight, builds strategic connections, and assists in defusing a crisis. She also oversees Hal Wyler, a fellow career diplomat, and their failing marriage.
