Rufus Frederik Sewell Born on October 29, 1967, is the son of Welsh artist and classical pianist Jo. William John Frederick Sewell (1924–1978), his Anglo-Australian father, was born in Australia to British parents and worked as an animator on the “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” part of the Beatles’ Yellow Submarine movie. When Sewell was five years old, his parents separated, and his father passed away when he was ten. Later, Sewell’s mother resided at The Pelican in Laugharne, Carmarthenshire, which had previously been the residence of Dylan Thomas’s parents, a Welsh poet and author. Sewell described himself as a challenging adolescent.
After attending Orleans Park School, a state comprehensive school in Twickenham, Sewell left in 1984. He then attended West Thames College, where a drama teacher sent him to try out for drama school. Later on, he enrolled in London’s Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.
