TheatreStory:
S. A. Chandrasekharan is the writer, producer, and director of the 2005 Indian Tamil action thriller Sukran. Ravi Krishna and Anita Hassanandani play the key roles in the movie, while Vijay makes a lengthy appearance as the title character. Pravin Mani wrote the score, while Vijay Antony, a rookie, wrote the music.
Students at a Dindigul college named Ravi Shankar and Sandhya are in love, but Sandhya has an issue at home because her uncle is drawn to her. When he sneaks into her bathroom one day while she’s taking a shower, she complains to her evil stepmother, but she doesn’t care and promises Sandhya that they will eventually get married. Sandhya confesses to her stepmother that she is in love with Ravi and that she will only wed him.
Sandhya’s stepmother pokes her nose in their wheel after learning about their affair. They are sent to Chennai by Ravi’s loving and caring father. He checks up on them after they get in Chennai, but Sandhya’s stepmother kills him in the middle of the call. Following that, a dishonest police officer by the name of Mahesh falsely accuses Ravi of killing his own father and detains him after Sandhya’s stepmother files a case alleging that Ravi killed his father when he put a stop to their affair. After that, Ravi is imprisoned.
Sandhya is convinced to ask Needhi Manikkam, a judge, for assistance in obtaining bail for Ravi; however, Manikkam is a wrong person and blackmails her into having an affair with him, which results in her spitting in his face. The police transport Sandhya to a palace, where Mahesh, Manikkam, and Tamil Kumaran (Bobby Bedi), Minister Janardhanan’s son, gang-rap her. Meanwhile, Ravi is set free by a trustworthy police officer, enabling him to save Sandhya. The three pull off Ravi’s clothes, bound her to the bed, and rape her one by one as she is traveling to her destination. They also record the rape on camera. When Ravi tries to enter the palace to save her, Needhi Manikkam’s goons stop him, beat him brutally, and toss him into the gallows, where he eventually passes out. Sandhya also loses consciousness after a while.
After a string of incidents, Sandhya makes the decision to end her life since, according to her, she has experienced so much suffering that she would never be able to forget it until she passes away. Since he had already lost both of his parents, Ravi decides to pass away with her in order to keep them together in the afterlife since he is unwilling to lose her and be apart from her. At this point, Sukran, a criminal defense attorney, shows up on the beach to save them, educate them the value of life, and counsel them to confront all of their challenges head-on. He then advises them to begin a new life and to be prosperous and content by the time they cross paths again. They gain employment and money, get married, settle into a modest home, and lead typical lives. The couple is hounded by the police after Mahesh, Manikkam, and Kumaran force Sandhya once again while she is wearing her nightgown. Sandhya is arrested on fictitious allegations of prostitution as a result of the incident. Ravi’s attempts to get her released on bond are ineffective. Mahesh, Manikkam, Kumaran, and Sandhya’s stepmother are allegedly shot dead by an enraged Ravi, who then flees the court with Sandhya.
Sukran intervenes once more, promising to save the pair. He shows up on Ravi’s side and provides sufficient proof to support him. In order to ensure full justice, Sukran then orders the court to sentence Minister Janardhanan to death in the most humiliating manner possible, by hanging him completely naked in front of thousands of people in Madras Marina Beach in broad daylight. His corpse will then be exposed to the elements, vultures, and decay after his death because of all the wrongdoings he had committed and his prior disagreements with him. The judge, however, opposes, stating that because of the court’s limitations, even wrongdoers should be spared. To the surprise of the court, Sukran takes matters into his own hands by executing Janardhanan after being dissatisfied with the court’s refusal to follow his instruction. Sukran then turns himself in to the police, claiming that even if Janardhanan was a degenerate, he shouldn’t have killed the judge.
