E. Ramdoss

Biography:

E. Ramdoss was an Indian film director, screenwriter, and actor who worked on Tamil films. He passed away on January 23, 2023. In late 1979, Ramdoss relocated to Mylapore, Chennai, with the intention of pursuing a career in the Tamil film industry. It was there that he met his neighbor, Manobala, who was at the time a young filmmaker.

After that, Ramdoss collaborated with filmmaker P. S. Nivas on his debut screenplay and received writing credit for the 1981 film Enakkaga Kaathiru, starring Suman and Sumalatha.

Following his work with Nivas, Ramdoss assisted Manivannan as an assistant director on six films before joining Motherland Pictures as a producer for Kovai Thambi.

Because of the box office success of multiple of Thambi’s films, he gave Ramdoss the chance to direct his first picture, Aayiram Pookkal Malarattum (1986), starring Mohan and Seetha.

The film became a commercial success despite a well-publicized falling out between the producer and the original music composer, Ilaiyaraaja. Ramarajan and Gautami starred in his following film, Raaja Raajathan (1989), which similarly performed well at the box office.

Many of Thambi’s films were successful at the box office, so much so that he allowed Ramdoss to direct his first film, Aayiram Pookkal Malarattum (1986), starring Mohan and Seetha.

Despite a well reported falling out between the producer and Ilaiyaraaja, the original soundtrack composer, the film proved a commercial success. His next film, Raaja Raajathan (1989), starring Ramarajan and Gautami, was also a box office success.

Thambi’s box office successes were so great that he gave Ramdoss the opportunity to direct his debut movie, Aayiram Pookkal Malarattum (1986), which starred Mohan and Seetha.

The movie was a commercial success even though there were rumors of a falling out between the producer and the original soundtrack composer, Ilaiyaraaja. His following movie, Raaja Raajathan (1989), starring Gautami and Ramarajan, was a box office hit as well.
