Biography:

Soundar Rajan is an accomplished Indian cinematographer known for his work in the Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam film industries. He hails from Uthiramerur, Tamil Nadu, and spent his childhood in Kancheepuram. He pursued his education, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communications from Loyola College.

Soundar Rajan’s journey into the world of cinematography began when he approached the renowned cinematographer P. C. Sreeram for work experience. Sreeram, in turn, recommended him to K. V. Anand, who accepted him as an assistant. They collaborated on several films, including “Nerukku Ner” (1997), “Mudhalvan” (1999), and “Josh” (2000). Afterward, Soundar Rajan continued as an apprentice under K. V. Anand’s mentorship until “Khakee” (2004). His debut as a lead cinematographer came with “Sukran” (2005), followed by “Kana Kandaen” (2005), directed by his mentor K. V. Anand. He also had the opportunity to work on Chimbu Deven’s “Arai En 305-il Kadavul” (2008) under director Shankar.

In addition to his work in the film industry, Soundar Rajan is highly regarded in the world of ad films, with over 3000 ad films to his credit. He has worked on various Tamil and Telugu films, including “Anaganaga O Dheerudu” (2011) and “Maattrraan” (2012), where he employed innovative techniques to achieve striking visual effects. His exceptional cinematography in films like “Vaayai Moodi Pesavum” (2014) and “Bogan” (2017) earned him critical acclaim. Soundar Rajan married Anusha in December 2005, and they have two children, including Advaith Soundar.
